Considering we have not signed any really experienced forwards ( only younger ones with experience) for 2013 is anyone of the opinion , hindy / Kearney should reconsider his retirement for another year? Yeah hindy is not what he use to be but is still pretty good , does a lot of tidying up in the middle etc and he wouldn't cost the world.

put yourself in hindy's shoes - would you really want to go through another season like this?

Being the competitor hindy is, I reckon it is killing him going out like this and he would prefer another season to go out on a better note.

It's quite sad that our motivation isn't to make the 8 but not to finish last, not the way burt and Hindy should have gone out

How do you know that Hindy wasn't tapped on the shoulder like Caylo ?

In defence of Brian Smith. It's f**king hard to win a a comp.

35% recruitment, 30% coaching and motivation and 35% luck with injuries, poor ref decisions etc (and that you don't play a team that cheats).

Judging BS by how many grand finals he's won alone is flawed. If you are a coach who takes on challenged clubs at the bottom of the ladder you'll hardly get the results that elevates you to "greatness".

IMO his (Smith's) teams over achieve rather than under achieve

I think Hindy was just implying that Smith was a coach that instilled in him the idea that if you miss a tackle or are near where a break is made then you chase.
That's it.

THe only Brian Smith team that could really be criticised for not winning a GF is the '98 Eels team that choked in the semi against the Dogs. Even then look at what he had in the backline that year: Schifcofske, Whereat, Kelly, Barnes, Cariage. Only Schifcofske was a class back. that said, the 98 team beat the Broncos twice that year and I reckon they could've done the job in the GF.

Two things stuck out for me. 1) His lack of understanding/knowledge as to why C Anderson has been brought in & what his role is and 2) his comment on the long range try where he said he will be bringing that up with the team. I would have expected him to say "I'm sure Steve will bring that up this week" (or words to that effect).

Perhaps (regarding point 2) I am reading too much into a throw away comment but who knows?

Just on Brian Smith. I also agree he has been unlucky in GF's. His own philosophy (my observation) works against him in that environment. He always seems to build sides that are equally strong across the park but are devoid of big name marquee players/proven match-winners. Funny thing is, the teams that beat him in the GF usually have them. To me, that's the reason he has been able to produce competitive sides as opposed to GF winning sides. He will always rank as one of the best ever coaches in the NRL to me. - Just quietly, should he survive at the Roosters, watch out for that team next year. They are building to something special.

The Chris Anderson appointment was obviously not conducted with any consultation with Hindmarsh. The sooner this circus ends the better.

I dunno if you're serious.

But if you are: why the hell would they consult with a player over the hiring of a coaching staff member?!?!?!?

"Uh, we're going to bring in someone to be your boss (or your bosses boss if you want to take it that way) - who would you like?"
That's the kind of thing Hagan would do....

I would think having a chat with teh most senior player about changing the way football operations are run would be quite common

they don't have to ask for his approval - just run it by him, explain what the purpose is and ask his opinion

Thanks Strides. Kearney keeps talking about changing the culture. It would be prudent to ask a respected player and your captain who has been part of the culture since 1997 about any future appointments. Ray Price is being consulted why not Hindmarsh?

I get the feeling from that video that Hindy isn't exactly over the moon with things at Parra at the moment (and not just because we're running last).

Chris Anderson, Brian Smith, poor chasing...and...I dunno...nothing really quantifiable but just a general feeling that he doesn't really like what is happening to the Club.
