Wests Tigers veteran Chris Heighington off to Cronulla Sharks in player cleanout

WESTS Tigers are preparing to undergo a player shake-up in the wake of missing the finals, with long-serving lock Chris Heighington poised to shift to Cronulla next season.
In a move guaranteed to create major internal ructions, Heighington - who is still under contract for 2013 - is close to finalising a three-year deal in the Shire to join former Tigers teammates Bryce Gibbs, Andrew Fifita and John Morris as early as November.
Footy Show funnyman Beau Ryan is also being shopped around to rival clubs as the Tigers consider tapping a number of contracted players on the shoulder. Coach Tim Sheens denied any deals had been done, but he admitted "there are some things that are going to happen that might make a few people unhappy".
"There's no doubt that we've got to do something in our recruitment area. We're looking to improve our depth rather than our main roster," Sheens said.

"But we've got to make some changes. I'm not going to say we have to turn everything upside down.
"That doesn't mean everything is wrong. We've got to analyse everything. What was done right, we stick to - what wasn't, we change.
"Every club prior to the team that runs second will do that this year."
Sheens and the Tigers were forced to endure major internal waves midway through last season when the club was looking to offload popular players Heighington, Ryan, Liam Fulton and Gibbs.
Ultimately, Gibbs and prop Andrew Fifita were squeezed out in a move that threatened to derail the club's 2011 title aspirations.
Gibbs had only just signed a three-year extension before he was released, a position Ryan finds himself in after the outside back recently negotiated a new deal with chief executive Stephen Humphreys.
Dual international Lote Tuqiri, currently off-contract, is also expected to struggle to secure a new deal.

Brent Kite

The Sunday Telegraph understands Manly prop Brent Kite heads a list of players the Tigers are in negotiations with in a bid to bolster a roster as touted premiership favourites in March.
Braith Anasta, Eddy Pettybourne and Bodene Thompson will all join the club over the off-season to offset the departure of English international Ellis.
The Sunday Telegraph has been told Heighington is fuming at the latest move to squeeze him out.
"Chris has been a great servant to this club but we're not looking past next year at this point," Sheens said.
"I'm not saying we won't re-sign him, but at this point we're not looking to extend that contract.
"Our main priority would be Robbie Farah and possibly big Keith Galloway, who both have one year to go. Liam Fulton is another one."
Sheens wants Royce Simmons to return to the Tigers as an assistant next season but was adamant that it would not cost any of his other support staff at the club - Steve Georgallis, Bryan Hyder, Grant Jones or Warren McDonnell - a job.

While Chris has been a great servant of the club....wasn't he itching to leave anytime the Central Coast Bears looked like being brought in?

We have one of the best playing rosters in the comp. There's no need to get rid of Hino. The issue lies with coach Sheens and how he INEFFECTIVELY uses Hino - like being continually directed to run at the markers. Any player is going to suffer if all he does all gae is run at the markers.

Sheens is ruining this club

Sheens: You wont believe the crap Im reading here in the papers Humpty! "He's past it". "He's underachieved for years". "The club stalwart has run his time, but needs to move on". "I wont re-sign if he remains at the club". This is horrible Humpty!

Humpty: I'm real sorry Tim. I don't know what to say.

Sheens: I'm in shock. I cant believe it.

Humpty: I understand mate

Sheens: After all these years of loyal service and support...

Humpty: yeah

Sheens:.... And this is how they talk about Chris Heighington

Humpty: yeah....umm...What?

Sheens: Poor bloke

Humpty: really? It says Rhino's name there?

Sheens: Well, no.....But who else could they be talking about?

Humpty: .... Well...

Sheens: Well nothing. Get rid of Chris then mate. Show him the door.

Humpty: Are you sure thats a good idea Tim? Hes still under contract and it would upset some of the players.

Sheen: like who?

Humpty: Chris is really tight with Beau.

Sheens: Really? Oh well. Fire him too then.

Humpty: But he just signed a three year extension, had a great year and is one of the most popular team members for the Tigers.

Sheens: i don't give a toss. If he wont be happy with my decisions then he can bugger off. I wont tolerate arrogance, conceit or selfish behaviour at the Tigers.

Humpty: Do you want me to tell all the players that? Or just the 'making up the numbers' boys?

Sheens: Yeah. Tell em all but Benji.

Not trolling, but that is pretty funny, despite the whole situation not being very funny for Tigpies fans.

They did the same to Gibbs.
Hilarious that they call for loyalty when they show none. Scum.

Loyalty died with super league. You wanted the coach to do something, he is being
ruthless and cutting the dead wood, ie Gibbs and Heino.

Ruthless or gutless, make up your mind.

My mate who was at today's game just gave me a run down. He is a Eels supporter and was pretty dirty when Humble signed with us. According to my mate, based on what he saw today he said the Tigers blew a real opportunity not sticking with Humble at 7. He might just be right....
