In my opinion I don’t see the Couchmans playing many games together this year. If all players are fit Lidde & Sele will definitely take up two bench spots . If we get Klemmer then he’ll take one if he doesn’t start .

That leaves 1 spot between Eisenhuth, RFM, Couchman, Egan. Stewart, Loko, M Molo (outside chance ) Lawrie (outside chance)

I do think Loko will eventually jag a spot so it’s a good battle to have
Ray for me in the 17.

You'd think Ryan's 116 metres and 31 tackles gets him onto the bench. That's the kind of workrate we need and as I said before he hits hard in defence. Stewart was good against the Roosters but struggled a little against the Bunnies when they lifted. Loko makes good metres but less effective in defence but if we don't get the Klemmer deal sorted before round 1 and Eisenhuth is still out then Ryan and Loko could well both be on the bench.
It’s bloody excellent that players are producing. Comp for spots. Next man up mentality.

Winners mentality.

I guess if he doesn't maintain that, there are other options, right?
Absolutely.

He lacks pace and has some head scratching moments, but he’s been dependable in the trials, has nice feet on the right side flank with his step favouring that (as you saw for example Ilias try) and his carries are robust.

If TS wants in, he needs to out compete him in the fundamentals and fit for purpose.

To me TS obviously catches the eye more because he looks good when he does things, but comparatively with fundamentals, mentality, physicality and staying in the game mentally, he falls short.

My scout only.

I have Finau with Fegai to start the year just based in trials. CT right down their necks and just getting minutes up in Cup. Then Sloan.

Allen, Rumble and of course Lawson, who has the most upside of all of them, again, imo.

Jesse Williams to watch in Flegg and maybe even miracle man Cody.

Cody has the game in him, I just don’t know if that can carry his reduced physicality to elite NRL level.

Finau deserves 1 wing spot. I don't care who else Flanno picks but he should keep building that combination with Holmes, they will score plenty of tries
Yes, I agree. However, whoever plays outside of Holmes is going to look good. What we really need now is for Flanno to help Suli produce the same ball skills as Holmes.

I am very happy with what Suli has been doing. He can pass. We have seen a bit of that lately. And he looks as slim and fit as I have ever seen him.
Totally agree. He can' do much more than he is now. He had a year or two where he wouldn't pass the ball but now he seems to be a dynamic threat almost every run.

Sua and Leilua no different. I know Luc has his doubters but these three are really doing their all under Flanno. I am grateful.

Why Sloan?

Why?
Because he's... kinda brilliant? This idea that he's not a "Flanno" player is a bit bogus because a) Flanno extended him midway through last year and b) Flanno won a comp with Ben Barba at fullback. Tyrell has demonstrated moments of genius on the field, in addition to that in his first year under Flanno he showed considerable improvement in defence, toughness and decision-making. Still far from perfect especially with his tackle technique but thankfully he's also apparently a humble, curious type who's easy to coach. I reckon he'd go ok on the wing.. but at the moment it all depends on the soup our coach is trying to cook up. It seems a little light on starch so Flanno might choose the potatoes of Feagai and Tuipolotu instead of the spicy paprika of Sloany

Cheers for that mate.

I agree he’s brilliant, but he’s still too flawed at this stage. Hence bringing in Gutherson.

I dunno about the Barba comparison. He won the Dally M in 2012. Does Tyrell have that in him over a season? I mean the consistency to do it.

I’d love it if he did.

For me, if you looked at Tyrell’s plus/minus score for minutes played (like the metric they use in the NBA), I’d guess he’d be too close to neutral or negative over a period of time.

There are plenty if brilliant players who fall short because their flaws outweigh it and that gets shown up badly in the NRL.

Nothing against the guy at all. I just see him more a Bevan French/ Matt Duffy / Jai Field than a Barba or a Hammer type.

Absolutely brilliant, but just a shandy off the NRL due to flaws that will be exploited.

Anyway, here’s hoping he improves to the point he breaks out and becomes a superstar.

:100: The moment Gutho arrived, Sloans future with us was sealed imo, as I now see Flanno back flipping on his, well not promise, but strong suggestion that Sloan would be moved to the flank. Now looks like he is in a three way battle for that one wing spot. CT is also another Flanno 'boy'. If the case I see our 'enigmatic genius' seeking a release again.

If Sione Finau misses a starting wing spot there will be an outcry from us fans over clear evidence Flanno is playing favorites. We have already had one of those coaches and he copped plenty of flack over that policy. Flanno risks losing credibility and support.
