Things I have not and WILL NOT try:

Steam suck ill never play this farked up game ever again :x
Well that is very simple you see, Half life2 is one of MANY games composing my large pc gaming library and Im not going to open my case up everytime (say the removal of hardware fix works) just to play one game. I have not had any problems whatsover with any fps to come out since Ive assembled this system, and I BUY my games I do not pirate them. If there has been a fps released within the last 2 years chances are I own it and hl2 is the only one giving me problems. So if your going to suggest a fix to me please make sure it isnt to remove ram or hardware, Im not a pc newb Ive been assembling systems for 10 years and my machine is stable.

Im sorry for the little rant but if you can understand Im rather dissapointed that I payed for this game which I had hoped to play and enjoy past single player and now I cant even sell the thing...

sincerely,

0neye

This was my letter to Steam , f**k them & THEIR GAME they SUCK ;-)

OK, you do realise STEAM is just a content delivery sytem, HL2 has been a pretty big seller if it was the problem the cries would be deafening.

I was a bit hesitant about STEAM myself, now I have no probs. with it.

What is your problem, maybe we can help.

Yeah me too, steam shit me to tears at first, but I've got it all sorted now, it just takes a bit of fiddling... If your pissed because the game seems to be uncrackable, well there is a dummy steam program and a no-cd crack out that let you bypass steam.

I have every right to complain mate! I bought the bloody game! So don't be so cynical... What you are not understanding here (and I acknoledge I should have explained it better) is that the dummy steam thing only works if you have a valid steam account, it just makes it so you don't have to insert the CD... Anyway, as far as I know nobody has successfuly pirated the game as of yet because of the lengths valve went to prevent it! You have to have an original and official steam account to log on and decrypt the files on the disc's to make the game playable and as a result no one has cracked (that I've heard of).

Anyway as far as pirating goes it should be totally shunned exept for special circumstances... special circumstances being EA spending buckets of money to gain exclusive rights over the NFL lisence simply because they couldn't deal with the fact that Madden was made to look ordinary but ESPN 2k5! Now I hate NFL with a passion, but even I would go out and purposely support the pirating of all future EA Madden titles simply because if they feel justified in taking money and business away from another company simply because their product can no longer compete, then why should we as consumers feel inclined to pay for their product when it was that company's cowardly action that stemmed the flow of competition to a particular genre???

Sorry, but I felt it neccessary to make that point about pirating...

Nah man, wasnt implying you pirated, just re-inforcing what you said. You sorted out the problem yet?

She works sweet now mate! And HL2 is a kick ass game, it shits on games like HALO 2 etc...
The dummy steam thing worked well. It was a file titled "hackedvl" or something, but the latest update on the steam website (which I got today) seems to let you play the game without the disc anyway so it's not really neccessary anymore...

Halflife 2 and Doom 3 are the two best single player games ive EVER played. Amazing both came out this year. Ive got a few problems with halflife 2 crashing ... but Doom 3 has NEVER crashed on my machine, EVER. I think ID software owns Valve for programming skills ... but halflife 2 is just so damn sweet ... if only it didnt crash :(

Do you run it on an nVidia 6800 card? Because I run mine on the MSI Nvidia 6800GT and it doesn't always work perfectly with it because of the fact that Valve designed the game more in line with the ATI cards... The latest patches have lessened the problems for me though.

I'm the opposite actually, Doom 3 crashes occasionally but HL2 never has. Doom 3 has better graphics, but other than that I think HL2 owns it in every department, Doom 3 just limits itself to the same dartk indoor environments whereas HL2 has tons of variation, plus an awesome physics engine.

True, but thats what Doom 3 is actually aiming to do... it was supposed to recreate a sort of horror movie atmosphere where your watching your back at every turn, you could say it limits itself in that way, but thats just how the game is themed...

I know it was intentional, but I still think ID were pretty lazy with their level design etc and I just found D3 got samey pretty quickly whereas HL2 kept throwinng new environments and situations at you. You can't really say that id are better coders than Valve based on the two games, D3 had better graphics because of it's limited environments, which allowed id to make the lighting and character models more detailed. If they'd tried to make levels of the scale used in HL2 the game would have run like crap on 99% of hardware.

True, and I actually do prefer HL2, but that said Doom3 still does alot right and is more varied with it's monsters...

Anyway, does anyone know where I can find some HL2 trainers? I wanna start playing rambo! 8)

Half life was awesome, and i'd agree that steam f**ken sucks.

Sad thing is though is that with the success of steam and half life 2 we're gonna be seeing a shitload more games in future being released and supported the same way.

Best games for me last year were

1. Half Life 2
2. Farcry
3. Doom 3

I had a few issues with Steam, but I got them sorted out within a day or so and have had no problems since. I'd have no issue with buying more games via Steam.

It does sorta shit me though you can't install more than one copy onto a system... If you wanna try before you buy then your really just stuffed...
