He's been playing alot better than Alternatives. I reckon Gould doesn't think he's up to it after the way he got bashed in 2002.

Hodgson has been the form fullback this yr, although i wouldn't say he is playing better then he did in 2001

I watched alot of Parramatta games in 2001 and Hodgson is definately better this year than back then.

Huge difference between 2002 and 2004.Its his ability to make something out of nothing.

2001 he ws on the end og a gun backline.......in a team that was breaking records. This year he is the gun in and mid table team.....

2004 form more impressive because of that IMHO......on hios current form he would have to go clase to Dally M FB of the year.

i dunno. minichiello is a better runner of the ball and a much better athlete and a whole lot stronger. i agree that playing fullback for the roosters would have its advantages but minichiello shows alot of individual brilliance. id rate minichiello above hodgo.

Anyone who has seen Tigers games this year would not call Minichello a better runner than our bloke. No way. Minichello has been ordinary this year. Where can I find some cumulative statistics on line breaks?

www.nrl.com.au has plenty.

Here's some for a start.

Player Hitups Tackles Metres L/B Offls Dummy Errors
Hodgson 211 36 2020 14 18 28 23
Minichiello 233 62 2129 12 15 32 16

And Minichiello has made better stats in only 11 games. Hodgson has played 13.

not surprising coming from balmain fans who were more than likely hailing benji marshall the next brad fittler

brett hodgson is in career best form no doubt, but he is not better than anthony minichello when he is at the top of his game.

minichello is the best returner of the ball in the game, he chews up the most metres and is equal to hodgson under the highball. minichello after recent dramas is a little down on form but amongst the elite company as he proved last year, he will show his class.

Hodgson is the form full back but i keep having flashbacks of Tallis dragging him over the side line like a rag doll.

Commentators such as Lewis, Gould and Daley were doing all the rapping.....anyways if you knew even half of what you think you know, then youd know Balmain fans dont like WestsTigers and would hardly be rating Benji.

The thing that gets to me is the people who are saying he isn't the number 1 fullback at the moment clearly arent watching Tigers games!! They are just basing their theory on what they saw of him last year. We have two free to air games over the next two weeks. Watch them than come back to me. I will go as far to say he the form outside back in the comp! I honestly can't think of anybody going better than him!!

Not true. I have seen most Tigpies games and he's going very well in a side that is going ok. When they play head to head in two weeks that'll give an idea of how Hodgson compares to Minichiello.

rubbish roosy ... one guy plays nehind a backline of stars the other doesnt. The reality is that Hodson has beena much bigger influence on the comp this year than Minichello. If we had Minichello and not Hodgson we would have won 4 less games that I can assure you. But I dont want Hodgson playing Origin we need him :D

but just not as explosive.

Hodgson is explosive as explosive gets IMO

By explosive, I mean tackle-busting, running over the top of the opposition, etc. Take the 2003 semi-final, Bulldogs-Roosters. I distinctly remember him make a 60 metre run where he broke through at least 5 bulldogs tackles. Minichiello would not get dragged over the sideline by Tallis. Whilst Hodgson is not as physically strong, his attack is more cunning and smart than Minichiello's in that he is more agile and can use and create gaps for the other players around him.

I also rate Hodgson higher than Minichiello. He has been having a marvellous season, while Minichiello has been well below his best - so much so that he was picked on the wing for Origin 1.

Below his best, yet he's still leading most of the major offensive indices. What does that tell you?

I'd still be tempted to rate Mini better, but I'd drop him in a second if you were playing the Doggies. Hodgson had their measure for sure.

hogo isnt only the form full backof the nrl--but i would say the form player.I have seen every game this year either at the ground or on tele-and he has been close to the best player in every game--form has been nothing short of brilliant--if you whatch his positional play--never seems to get caught out--but with gould coach-he would pick a chook reserve grader before hogo--thank god his gone next year

I will say this. Minchello is a safer option because of Minichello's experience in big games. But you can't say Minichello was playing better than Hodgson. The only thin Minichello has done this year is get thrown out of Origin camp!!!
