What I have always wanted is for key management positions to be allocated to the best applicant and not a job for the boys system. Millward was a job for boys appointment.
have a firm belief that you first spend time and money recruiting/promoting/retaining players for the top 17 positions. These positions to be filled by good first grade proven players. Once this is done, the next step is to consider juniors and other player on the market for fringe our reserve grade side with a mind focused on these players being ready replacements for our first grade players.
You make a good point however we are a joint venture and the Illawara half, has historically as they have continued to do, provided many quality juniors. That culture of favouring the local player, is best mmaintaine by promoting loyalty. In this Proffesional era, that requires looking after former players with talent and the same criteria should apply which is that quality must be first consideration for coaching and administration staff, but within the context of when their are candidates with equal of near equal candidacy for a role, the one who already has ties to the club including ex-players should be favoured
