Im really not that down on the boys after last night, our first 40 was superb... play like that and we a top 4 side BUT i dont know what was said in the sheds at halftime but where the f**k did we go for the first 25 of the second half ?? It was like a totally different team out there.
Our interchange bench killed us last night, Royce has gotta give that up asap !!!!
We had 66% possession, 5(?) penalties vs 2, with 5 interchange vs 2(?) by halftime, for a drawn score. We actually got beat in the 1st half. Needed to be ahead by 2 tries minimum to make it through the next 40 mins. They were just tiring us in the 1st half, and waited for our flyweight bench to kill us in the 2nd, when they had an extra 3 interchanges. The final result was quite flattering all things considered. We are still playing with Sheens' attempt at a custom-made halfback, utilities and 2nd rowers galore, lack of props, and crap defence.
It isn't just the D-structure that is failing either, they are playing the gang tackle wrestle game, and they can't make it work, except to help the opposition. It's ok in patches, but overall they are getting 3 or 4 tacklers in, getting knocked around more than the runner, and offloads are made regularly. As seen in the game, this leaves an already disorganized and lightweight defensive line short, and the attack goes in to score. I honestly think they would be better off giving away the wrestle, and employing 2xman tackles, around the legs. Not exclusively, but as the basic tactic. That is if the team size doesn't increase drastically and a new defensive coach isn't going to arrive to fix it all up.
