Hornby V Greenshields

Who do you guys think should be our fullback? Seriously...think about it.
Two very different styles of play. Hornby is the extra playmaker like Lockyer and Greeny is the Runner like Minichiello.

I would hate to see Greenshields end up at another club but where can we put him? Maybe Centre or Wing. Maybe we should just tell Hornby he is 5/8 and just wait for Baz to get injured hanging out the washing or whatever.

Greenshields and Simmonds would be a good Centre/Wing combination and they would compliment each others game well.

Gasnier will be out injured half the time anyway and I dont think he will be staying on when his contract runs up.

I think Greeny to the Centres or Wing is going to be the only realistic change that could be made.

Greeny wouldn't go astray in the Centres or at 5/8. At one stage he couldn't even make Magpies starting Backline in '03. He played a lot of 5/8 and basically was our only playmaker and took us to the Semis where you guys knocked us off because Dean Byrne realised he could play. He is best at Fullback but at home playing Centre or 5/8, even Halfback if you really need one. I heard his form at the end of last year vs Hornby's was almost getting him a spot ahead of Hornby, don't be suprised to see it happen this year.

Don't you think he is down the order a bit in terms of Centres and Winger? Gasnier and Cooper starting with Torrens next inline and then probably Best with Youngquest coming onto the Wing and Naiquama, and Wing he is behind Best and Simmonds, Youngquest and Naiquama.

Personally, I think if Ben Hornby doesn't improve a fair bit in a few weeks, Greenshields should start ahead of him, or, as you said, you could wait until Barrett is injured and play Hornby at 5/8, Greeny at Fullback, but what would Holdsworth think of that?

From the talk I've heard, Holdsworth is more liekyl to end up at Lock than 5/8 when he comes up to playing fulltime first grade.

Niaqama is a good player but he is always injured.
I dont think we will squeeze Greeny out so Torrens can play for 2years.
Best I think will end up on the Wing or in PL.
Youngquest and Simmonds are best chances for the wing spots I think.
Like I said, Greenshields to the centres because Gasnier will be injured anyway and I doubt whether we will re-sign Gaz again.

This is a very good question.

I think Hornby is still the best fullback in the club but Greenshields can't be denied. He's the specialist imo.
Hornby will fill in at five eighth when the inevitable occurs.

At a full strength team there will be no place for Greenshields. Who ever says Hornby is under pressure from Greenshields is kicking themselves because they must be watching a different game then me. Hornby, I think is more important to the team then Barrett. He was our best in the charity shield.

Greenshields is a good player and it will be sad to see him go, but unfortunately there are better options in front of him in his positions. Hornby at fullback, Gasnier, Cooper and Torrens in the centres, Simmonds, Best and Youngquest on the wing. Is he up to first grade standard, yes, but unless injuries occur (which I'm sure they will and he'll end up playing a lot of first grade this season) there isn't really a spot for him in the first grade side. It says wonders for our depth though.

Greenshields is in our top 17 players no doubt in my mind and a spot has to be found for him.
Hornby will not and does not deserve to be dropped, he was our best along with Greenshields on Saturday night.

I see a permanent move to the halves for Benny with Baz going to lock and Greenshields taking the fullback role.
Greenshields can simply no longer be left out of the top 17, it's as simple as that.

I think Greenshields should be a winger at our club, Hornby to stay at fulback where he belongs. He has been training as centre/winger during the offseason, so it would be no harm for when Gaz/Coops are injured or if he can cement a wingers spot.

Hornby has to stay at fullback. He is the best positional fullback in the League and safe as houses and easily the best defensive fullback in the game.

He is an extra play maker but the only area that needs improvement is dummy-half running and kick returns which Greenshields is no doubt better in, but overall Hornby is the better player.

The way Greenshields plays in attack he would go well on the wing or in the centres and at a pinch in the halves. My only problem with him on the wing, is if Simmonds is the other winger while both great under the high ball they are both short players and we lose out offensively and defensively with the use of the bomb. Greenshields is a very good defensive player but as a fullback he only tackles in good low old fashioned solid round the legs tackles. I'm not saying he can't but can he adapt to having defend high?

After tonights game i'd say give Greeny a go at fullback.
Hornby did nothing all night and he is supposed to be our captain.

Is Greeny injured, i didn't see him in the ressies?

I'm going to watch the game on replay today. Also keen to see how Gorrell went at 5/8th rather than Hornby. Hindsight is a pain
