Hottest 100

I've been based over in the UK for the last 12 months but still stream the J's when I get the chance, but it's still just not the same as being at home. With this in mind I was really looking forward to Sportingbet releasing their annual odds for the Hottest 100 to get an idea of any good Aussie music I'd missed out on over the past year or so.

I was greeted with an overwhelming favourite by someone called Lorde. I was absolutely certain Daft Punk would have been the heavy favourite so I took it upon myself to listen to a bit of this Lorde character - and it's nothing but generic girly pop music! What the hell! I genuinely feared for the future of the Hottest 100 after that Macklemore shit won last year, but if this wins it will be two diabolical pop songs in a row.

So get out there and vote people, help protect what once was a fantastic countdown.

I can't believe that lorde song 'royals' or 'queen bee' or whatever the f**k that hammerhead shark looking kid called it, has been getting the airplay and popularity on the radio and tv.

I know the average punter is a bit of a clown out there but fair suck of the sav..........

I'd back Get Lucky in over Royals. The hype was f**king huge.

Australia Street is going to be my number 1.

But then again i guess that barber shop song won a few years ago so are we really surprised?

I miss those first 6-7 years of the H100. Some damn fine generation defining tunes, wtf happened?

The song that won last year was diabolical and a true indication that the majority of people who vote in the Hottest 100 aren't actually people who listen to Triple J normally.

I fear if Lorde wins this year and makes it 2 years in a row with crappy pop songs winning that the credibility of the countdown will be lost forever.

Thrift Shop and Royals were both huge on Triple J before hitting it mainstream. That's the trend since 2008 or so.

Really?

As I said, I've been abroad for a while, but I could never imagine that Royals song being a stable on Triple J. Some of the morning show presenters often play dribble, but I wouldn't have expected it to be on a high rotation but I'll take your word for it.

Community radio is the only place to find decent music these days.

Tell me where you live and I will tell you your community radio station.

My top ten will feature
Highrider by the Bennies
I Sat By The Ocean and probably My God Is The Sun by QOTSA
In the Aisle - Violent Soho
Asleep at the Wheel - Band of Skulls
Youth Wasted by the Bronx
Ducks Fly Together by The Smith Street Band

Gotta narrow down a few songs for the last few spots. Reflektor is growing on me

Yeah I have never been a big Arcade Fire fan, but Reflektor has been one that I've surprisingly enjoyed ever since its first airing.

I preferred their last album, but the song is just growing and growing on me, which I didn't expect

Had to add in Laura Imbruglia myself, apparently they don't play her. If only she specialised in f**king Skip Hop.

Yeah remember that classic winner from the first yearly countdown? Asshole by Dennis Leary.... :sarcasm:

Plenty of dumbass songs get into the top 10

Generally the winner is a song that is pretty much appreciated by most JJJ listeners though, I think with it becoming more and more popular it's being overrun by Nova/Pop FM listeners though.
