In no particular order:

London Grammar - Hey Now
Bibio - A Tout A L'Heure
Dustin Tebbutt - Where I Find You
Kanye West - Black Skinhead
SAFIA - Listen To Soul, Listen To Blues
Kite String Tangle, The - Given The Chance
Arcade Fire - Reflektor
Queens Of The Stone Age - If I Had A Tail
James Blake - Retrograde
Arctic Monkeys - Do I Wanna Know?

So many good songs missed out though. I loved "Is This How You Feel?" by The Preatures.

Arcade Fire - Reflektor
National, The - Sea Of Love
Kanye West - Black Skinhead
Daft Punk - Get Lucky
Dustin Tebbutt - Where I Find You
Vampire Weekend - Diane Young
James Blake - Retrograde
Cloud Control - Promises
Delta Riggs, The - Rah Rah Radio
Courtney Barnett - Avant Gardener

Young Drunk was 2012, otherwise it would have made my list as well.

Was originally thinking Get Lucky or Royals would finish number 1, however I'm seeing a lot of votes for Vance Joy...

Given their affinity with the novelty songs, is that fox song a chance of gaining a top 10 spot this year? Or am I way off the radar here? Was once a regular listener to the "Jays", but not for quite a few years now (probably stopped listening about the time "Today Today" finished ~2005...)

Woooooo! A celebration for all that's good in life, that lorde shit didn't win.

Happy for Vance joy, but the fact that song won shows it was a really weak year.

Really?

As I said, I've been abroad for a while, but I could never imagine that Royals song being a stable on Triple J. Some of the morning show presenters often play dribble, but I wouldn't have expected it to be on a high rotation but I'll take your word for it.

Mate, I'm an old school indie fan from the days of The Jesus and Marychain, The Smiths etc in the early 80's. When I moved to Oz in the 90's Triple J was hands down the best radio station in the World and the Hottest 100 was an absolute must every year.

I still listen to the J's (or FBI) and I'm gob smacked by the number of times I have to check that the kids haven't changed the station to Nova or Today FM. Seriously, girly pop music and commercial rap (Kanye f**king West) get a very high rotation on the station.

Still, having said that and reading the list there is still a massive amount of seriously good f**king music in that list. London Grammar, Arctic Monkeys, Daft Punk, Arcade Fire, Birds of Tokyo, Queens of the Stone Age, Rudimental (great electronic music), Grouplove, British India - the list goes on.

Yeah so there seems to be a real shortage of hard rocking, punk and rock songs at the moment - but fingers crossed we'll get a revival of that soon.

In fairness, the countdown from 100 to 51 is always better than 50 to 1 in the quality of the songs

Go back over some of the lists of the last 10 years and you'll find great songs in the bottom half and utter garbage in the top 10.

I'm with Bubbles - it's still a great reference tool for checking out bands and songs you missed. I'm going to listen to it in full and buy some albums off the back of it.

Kanye West is more popular with the critics than he is with the mainstream now days dude. I don't think he has had a hit single since 2007 but his albums are all critically acclaimed. If a weirdo critically acclaimed hipster darling doesn't belong on JJJ I am not sure where they belong.

There is no way that Yeezus is a commercial record lmao. Even compared with some of the above groups you mentioned. Its practically ripping off death grips in parts.

I love how every JJJ listener seems to utterly despise American hip hop (ie the better hip hop), so who's voting it in?

I personally think today's countdown of 200-101 is far, far better than yesterday's. I'm going to pretend that this is the real list.
