How do you FIX the Warriors?

A lot of this ignores the fact that the Warriors cannot recruit the best coaches, and have to pay overs for players to come over from Australia to play. This is not just Australians seeking overs to play for the Warriors, but Kiwi born and bred talent, that got signed out of school by Australian clubs and migrated over there.

SBW said it best, if you want to play rugby league - you want to be in Sydney (or Brisbane). It is the same for Britain's best: James Graham, Sam Burgess, and Widdop. True for Australians. And true for Kiwis alike. Melbourne cheated to build its successful dynasty away from a rugby league centre, and was given advantages as a new club in 1998 enabling a win in 1999 (and fluked Kimmorley due to Hunter and joey at the Knights). Lets see how Melbourne goes once the big 3 retire and Bellyache moves on.

Rams and Perth struggled to get talent didn't they? What was life like for the Cowboys pre signing JT? (And I have to say, Townsville looks like a beautiful place with its beaches and bar holiday resort type lifestyle.)

The footballers have a lot of fun, often too much fun, partying and being celebrities in Sydney with players from their own and other clubs and codes; where the world is their oyster. NZ is a Union town where Jesse Ryder could not goto a bar in Auckland and have a drink without a cellphone camera shoved in his face recording his every move.

Being full of shit must be a burden for you ol' mate. If one of the best coaches in the game can be attracted to Melbourne there's no reason another can't bivouac in NZ. The Warriors only problem is they persist with home grown halves when the culture in the joint prefers rip, shit or bust over finesse

Bellamy shops in NZ for the best forwards rather than poaching . . . something that Melbourne now with the best management in the game may have to defer to when the Biggies move on if people like you have their way . . . he or another Supercoach would shop in Australia for halves like our Indigenous who thrive on finesse

Simple remedy for the Warriors is do what Bellamy does, shop early and in the right places . . . and ignore dopes like you

Friday night was a massive improvement on week 1. They would have blown a lot of other sides away in the period before half time with field possession and control they were playing with, so I still think the Warriors can do something this year.

Let Auckland revert back into developing the NZRL

Just like Newcastle once did

Then we can add CC Ipswich and Perth into the Australian competition

Tougher management. Tougher coaching. Greater emphasis on fitness. Less acceptance of stupidity. Look at Vatuvei. Cult hero. Worst hands in the history of the game. Hurrell. Super hero but can't tackle. These problems are fixed in most clubs.

Turfing the coach would be a start
He's not up to it, that's a good team and the team should be performing as such

But the entire organisation needs to shake up, from top to bottom. This is a team that should be competing for premierships most years. The raw talent in the Warriors team is always off the charts

It takes awhile for things at the top to filter down. Jim Doyle is one of the best around, and if he had put his hand up for the NRL top job he would have gotten it no doubt.

The raw talent thing is always overstated with the Warriors. There's more than one side to the game and for various reasons the Warriors only produce players who specialise on one side of the ball.

Aside from that we're playing the wrong game plan that nullifies our strengths as much as anything the oppposition does, but I don't think anything needs to be said about the coach that hasn't already been said repeatedly.

First and foremost, Johnson HAS to be at halfback. Literally half the sets the Warriors had Johnson barely touched the ball. Not the right structure.

Robson could be a decent utility hooker off the bench if need be.

The warriors were supposed to be one of the prized jewels of the NRL. One team belonging to one nation. With a factory belt of the best talent in the game to choose from and develop the New Zealand Warriors have continued to sink to its lowest depths. There is more than something seriously wrong at the club. Its going from bad to worse. Last night the warriors lost by 15pts. Many of the fans are saying it was a greatly improved performance!

What do the warriors need to do to come right long term. Only 5 finals series in 20 years. How would you fix the club to make it a powerhouse?

I would sell it to new owners.

Sorry Andrew McFadden, but you're not going to find the answers here on an internet forum. Back to the drawing board.

Ad hominem

If one of the best coaches in the game can be attracted to Melbourne there's no reason another can't bivouac in NZ.

When Bellamy moved to Melbourne to coach in 2003, his first grade experience as head coach consisted of a "Baby Broncos" game in 2002 due to Wayne Bennett being on State of Origin duty. So Melbourne did not attract one of the best coaches in the game, they bought a nobody coach, who became a somebody while there and coaching one of the greatest spines seen in club rugby league if not rep footy with a plethora of rep forwards that was assembled by cheating the salary cap!

Bellamy has become a best coach during a tenure of guiding 4 (Inglis, Cronk, Smith and Slater), then reduced to 3, of the most gifted players rugby league has ever seen with a plethora of able rep quality forwards in a team that was assembled with wide spread salary cap rorting. Do you really need a list of the forwards, both Kiwi and Australian rep players (and even mere Origin players too), he has had in stable since the cheating began? Do you really think that without cheating the Melbourne could have attracted and kept the Big 3, and all those rep forwards? Both then and now wanting to play at Melbourne in a winning side to increase their next contract value. 2 or 3 years or more at Melbourne with Cronk, Smith and Slater makes their next contract to a new club a whole lot tastier.

Is Bellamy one of the best coaches now? Arguably looks that way - when he has Smith, Cronk and Slater with players like Bromwich, Procter and Harris. (That is a lot of that Kiwis pack you are so fond of).

How did he go in Origin without that Big 4 or Big 3? Oh that is right - awful. He lost 7 matches out of 9. Maybe Mel Meninga is a better coach than Bellamy.

Is Bellamy one of the best coaches?

Possibly. But to be honest, I do not know for sure. He has some good and arguably technical set plays, but he has outstanding cattle to execute them successfully.

Let us see how he goes at his next club, or post Slater, Smith and Cronk.

The Warriors only problem is they persist with home grown halves when the culture in the joint prefers rip, shit or bust over finesse

I did not know Robson, the current halfback, was a Kiwi. Nor the first halfback, Brandy Alexander. Or many in between.

Hey look, if Cooper Cronk wants to join the Warriors, most fans I imagine would be keen for it. I would like to see Shaun Johnson playing outside him. Be great entertainment. Cameron Smith or Billy Slater would add some valuable depth around the place, too.

If Jesse Bromwich, Tohu Harris or Kevin Procter want to come and play for the Warriors, I am sure they will be welcomed by Warriors fans too.

Hey Pops, you should get your facts right before resorting to name callin' in future.

Bellamy developed all those players didn't he.

Lets see how his player development goes post Slater, Cronk and Smith.

I'd argue Greg Inglis could have been a footy great under Nathan Brown.

Melbourne sure has been innovative during Bellamy's reign with new approaches to tackling and the ruck.

None of which changes the fact when Bellamy packed up and moved to Melbourne and started at the Storm; he had never been a regular first grade coach previously. Staying in Melbourne with continued season after season success on big dollars, well that is just playing a coaching career with minimal risk - as any wise man with a family to support would do. Jarryd Hayne dream chasing in his 20's with few responsibilities is different to a family man in his 50's.

The Warriors players are the only people who can fix the Warriors. No one else can fix us, players have to want to fix themselves

Tired of having his basic factual errors being noted in the Warriors forum, Iron Lion tries his empty bollocks elsewhere.

There seems to be a few issues facing the Warriors. All can be addressed but unfortunately all need time to be resolved.

The way the NRL is now, instant results are demanded from any new coach or new regime, and unless they keep producing results they are out on their ear and the search begins anew.

Any real resolution for any club that's in trouble would need a 3-5 year plan from an incoming coach with assurances their reign would last at least that long to give them time to get their structures in place. "Fixing" an NRL club isn't as simple as waltzing in and ditching two or three players who have a toxic attitude to training or putting in the hard yards in close games. That's merely the starting point. You need to find a stabilizing captain, get the entire top 25 on board, work with your under-20s coach and talent scouts to locate players with NRL potential and bring them through, deal with injuries, and handle the press.

This isn't to say that a certain level of accountability isn't needed, just that the chopping and changing with a lot of coaches doesn't help them, their team, or the game in general.
