How do you HONESTLY rate your team's chances in 2006?

Yes, yet another one of those threads...

PANTHERS

Much has been documented about the Panthers disrupted pre-season – the Craig Gower incident that has led to him being stripped of the captaincy, and the less than subtle recruitment of Matthew Elliot as the new head coach next year, leaving the incumbent feeling every right to be disappointed.

Hardly a good preparation to go into a new season – and two trial wins can easily mask these two events and give the impression that the ship has steadied in time for March 11 against the Bulldogs.

Time will tell.

Only the brave (or stupid) are willing to tip the Panthers to finish in the 8 – and that is with some justification. An unsettled pre-season, a halfback who may not be entirely focussed on the task at hand, a centres combination that does not exactly instil fear, a forward pack that has lost two major mainstays, and skinny depth beyond the main 17.

But if we play to our true potential (there is still a lot of talent at the foot of the mountains), are lucky with injuries, and Gower fires, well, 2006 could very well see a return to the finals.

Worthy wooden spooners? Once again, a prediction a few people have made. Given the nature of the NRL, anything can happen. But based on the strength of the squads, compared to others, it is not the worst nor weakest.

2006 is a re-building year. No miracles are being expected this year. Penrith have recruited heavily, but no big names stand out – all of them either have limited NRL experience or have been seen as potential first graders – a couple of years down the track. 2007 should hopefully be a start of some bearing of these fruits.

In summary, I see the Panthers setting anchor in the bottom half of the competition this year. Where it is after 26 rounds is anyone’s guess.

My tip: 9th [highest – 7th, lowest - 13th]

KNIGHTS

Alot of things point towards us being back in the top 8 since 2003.

1. We have fixed up all our off field problems like full time staff and so on, not having that in 2005 really recked us up IMO.
2. Alot of juniors have now had a feel for First Grade which will be good for when and if injuries occur and rep duties.
3. We are starting the season of with only 2 players going to miss the first round, also much better than 2005.
4. Johns seems to be close to his best and he should start the season much better than he did in 2005 which will also help.

Only drama with this season is the coaches... But I think we will get around that fairly well.

My tip: 3rd [highest – 1st, lowest - 13th] (Positions based on regular season and not finals)

Dumb thread.

You cannot expect supporters to admit that their teams will falter at this time of year. They should all be optimistic. If you're not going to have faith in your team at this time of year, then you may as well not follow the game.

Unless of course you're a Warriors supporter, starting on minus 4 must really hurt, but the punishment should have been worse.

Each to their own Rammo. I can see your point - I think every year that my team can win the comp... but at the same time, I am a realist.

I'd say depending on injuries - if we have a run like last year - pretty much the same. If not I can see the Raiders making 6th.

I'm really not sure to be honest. We're very much an enigma this season; anything could happen. I would be hopeful we will consolidate and prove that for the time being at least, we are one of the top sides. I am confident this will happen. Alternatively, I can see 2nd season curse hitting blokes like Marshall (sure it's his 4th but the 1st and 2nd saw him play very little footy), Farah and Fulton. Additionally, if Prince has his concentration on GC in 2007 we might battle. I'm hopeful Sheens will ensure this doesn't happen.

Prediction: 3rd and runners up.
Highest: Minor premiers and premiers.
Lowest: 8th

Honestly, I reckon Penrith will struggle and may even end up with the spoon. But I hope not.

well if penrith stick with there juniors anythin can happen tigers proved this last year and i guess penrith proved it on 03

as for the tigers we will struggle a bit until we get that halatau/Farah combo going again which wont be for a while alot will also depend on Prince and our new buys Lolesi,O'Hara,Galloway,Harris

I expect the Raiders to be right up there after a month or two, we're always the April premiers (or thereabouts). After that we'll probably start to fade, and we may just make the 8, but I'm not expecting miracles.

I expect us to win the comp, its simple if we win alot of games we can win the whole thing and be the first team in 40 yrs to do so , but if we dont win enough games well we wont win the whole thing.
so basicaly we are a 50% chance of winning the comp.

Parra:
people doubt us, which i like.
i honestly rate our chance. we have a strong squad, good coach.
Our strength is our jnrs. Without a doubt very strong, in which alot are pushing for spots on our established jnrs. I am hoping for a spot up near the top. But anywhere in the 8 is fine as long as we go well in the finals.

My prediction: 4th

For Parramatta

Good:
- Lots of depth if needed
- Can cope better then other teams if the #1 or 2 player is out
- Players motivated after last years disgrace against the Cowboys

Bad
- Off Field issues with Smith leaving as coach an unknown factor players can say as much as they want that it won't affect them but the question still remains if they are trying to convince the public or themselves.
- Tim Smith could crash and burn in his 2nd year if he does it'll cause major problems with the Eels attack

Overall
Should have a good year leading into the finalsx but once that happens it's another game and unknown really how any side will perform but a good spot in the 8 will make things a lot easier. If Tim Smith has a good,m solid 2nd year even if it is down on his rookie season it should be enough to at least get Parra as close to the Grand Final as they were in 2005.

Prediction:
After 26 Rounds: Top 4
Finals: Final 4 (not prepared to tip GRand Finalists yet)

I honestly believe in the possibility of us winning our first premiership. I don't see it as likely, but it is possible all the same.

I expect us to make the top 8. I will be disappointed if we don't.

Anythings possible but I don't think this year will be the year of the shark.

Too much ill discipline to be able to match it with the "teams to beat" when it counts. Im pretty optimistic we'll make the 8 though.

I like the fact we aren't rated by anyone.

I predict 6th - 10th
