How many good fullbacks are there..?

Just casting an eye on the teams over recent weeks....how many good fullbacks are going around?
Every team has a decent fullback at the moment..some are in form and some are out but have proven there ability in the past(Hornby, etc) ..Newcastle are probably the only team struggling in that dept at the moment..Even the back ups seem capable..like Luke Burt coming in for McKinon etc.
And they are all very different in there abilities and styles..but strong regardless.
And another thing..none are really in the Wombat class of defense or even near it..

The best one by far is playing 5/8, but there's plenty of other good ones getting around.

You know what my question would be?

How on Earth does Karmichael Hunt expect to play for QLD or even Australia with the amount of tallented fullbacks running around for both!

Hunt is miles below Slater, Wesser and Schifcofske in the pecking order. His one on one defence is pretty ordinary, I think he reads it quite badly to be honest. He's still learning though. Still a class player but he has plenty of time.

The abundance of talent in the number 1 jersey in 2005 is quite amazing and as noted, the QLD selectors enjoy the spoils given they need to seperate Slater, Bowen, Wesser and Schifcofske.

No, the above is not a misprint, I left Karmichael Hunt out of the calculations as he is just not up to handling the next step up at the moment and will be concentrating on looking for form with Brisbane let alone worrying about the pressure cooker that is S.O.O.

A kiwi eligble for the QLD Maroon jersey...this is an old, old argument. The decision is made and if Hunt's form warrants selection for QLD in the coming years, he is able to don the maroon jersey.

Moving on...

He has been in this country one year longer then Adrian Morley.

The QLD'ers need to stop cheating.....they need to select QLD born and bred players.

I agree with Arthur Beetson....they need to get rid of the Kiwi's and Islanders from the QLD League side.

Slater has Inglis to back him up and both are absolute gun. You'll see Inglis more when Slater is away on rep duties. Behind Inglis we have Quentin Laulu Togagae who alternates between fullback and center with Inglis. Melbourne's in safe hands 8)

Why turn a topic on how many good fullbacks there are in the comp into another Hunt bagging? FFS we get the point alright, you guys don't rate the guy, reckon he should be playing for the kiwi's ect. You guys don't need to mention it everytime someone mentions the word fullback or the number 1. It's getting really frelling annoying.

Brett Stewart is another dead set gun :)

He certainly is. Every team has a gun player that I really hope stays with the club for their entire career. Stewart is Manly's.

Nearly every team got's a good fullback:

Brisbane: Karmichael Hunt
Bulldogs: Luke Patten
Canberra: Clinton Schifscoske
Cronulla: David Peachey
Manly: Brett Stewart
Melbourne: Billy Slater
Newcastle: Dustin Cooper
North Queensland: Matt Bowen
Parramatta: Wade McKinnon
Penrith: Rhys Wesser
St George Illawarra: Ben Hornby
Sydney Roosters: Anthony Minichello
Wests Tigers: Brett Hodgson

Souths and Warriors are probably the only ones that dont have great fullbacks. Webb is hopeless, and Todd Polglase is ok but hasnt played many games. Patten and Peachey are good, not sensational but consistent. And Dustin Cooper seems to go alright, on a side thats struggling.

Seage when he returns for the Knights will improve things at the back by a long way.

Yeh thats exactly what i was gonna say Daze, I dont think his watched any manly or parra games so his just called em crap coz he knows no different. I think Polglase goes alright to, he'll improve over time. And whoever mentioned Inglis hit the nail on the head, his awesome! For Norths this weekend their were none better.
