Thank God this is the last year forced Sydney based finals in week 2

I agree and that's why I won't be surprised to see a piss poor crowd for the Brisbane Newcastle game which should be getting played at either Energy Australia Stadium which would sell out or at Suncorp that would go close to selling out. The issue here though is that we do have 2 sydney teams in Manly and St George that can't even draw 40k it looks like.

Lets wait for the chickens to hatch before we start counting.

There'll be 25k Saints fans there at least. The rest is up to the Delmege's.

I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that if the Eagles Dragons game was on tomorrow night it would have sold out mid week. I'm deadset against a Friday night semifinal at this stage of the season, Saturday Night & Sunday Arvo games are the way it should have stayed.

Friday night at 7.45 is just to bloody hard for many people to get to from work, and especially considering traffic around Moore Park on a Friday is bedlam without the added pressure of a Semi Final. Also considering its live on CH9 that's a big lure to stay at home.

But not me, I'll be there, with bells on.

Totally agree Fifita. Saturday night/Sunday afternoon combo's were ideal.

I'm lucky that I work pretty close to the SFS and can head up straight after work, but for others it's not so easy.

This is a poor excuse. The Swans are looking at 80,000 at Telstra the following Friday...

i agree with everyone.

there shouldn't be friday night semis week 2.

the swans can draw a crowd on friday night.

semis should be held in other cities appropriate to the game.

friday and saturday will have big crowds.

and of course,

Rugby League will be the real winner.

Some subtle differences here. That's at Homebush - with public transport right to the door. Compare that with the usual Friday Night Moore Park traffic sh1tfight or a train, then 25 min walk at least from Central Station - which all has to be overcome from the time work ends to 7.45 kickoff. It would have been more sensible to kickoff at 8.30.

I'm not saying Dragons Eagles would have filled Telstra, but its obvious why this game hasn't sold out already.

The NRL deserves low crowds for getting rid of the Sunday semi.

A ridiculous decision.

I don't understand why we can't get 40K tonight. 20,000 fans from each team isn't too much to ask. I'll be dissappointed if there's anything less than 35K

...and then theres the scoreline.....

Bulldogs v Dragons got 31k in Round 23. That was a regular season game, at a stadium that has worse atmosphere than Aussie. Its disgraceful for a Week 2 finals game between two sydney teams to get a crowd like that. If it was Bulldogs v Tigers there would be 50k minimum. Manly must have at least 20,000 fans that are prepared to leave brookie to attend a game. Actually, thinking about it, they probably don't..

Next week the Swans, charging a fortune, will get 70,000, yet we can't sell out a 40,000 stadium. The league needs to pull it's finger out and do something for the image of the game and stop worrying about f***** channel nine.

Good to see a bloke with the courage to tell the truth. It doesn't actually matter if the Swans get 70,000, 80,000 or 10,000 but it bloody well does matter if there are thousands of unsold tix at a finals game.

Inititaive, marketing, recruitment, getting out into the community and drawing people in. if necessary steal ideas from the likes of Collingwood or Adelaide AFL who are miles ahead of us in roping in support from the community. Let the mexicans snigger. We will benefit from copying best practice and frankly they have it down to a tee mates and we know it.

We can have 20,000 average attendance in 5 years time if we have the courage to reach out and up.

Where the hell were the Manly fans last night? Of the 30k, 25k would have been red and whites.

Shocking Crowd... Manly and North Shore people in general have to accept the fact that, life doesn't start and end on that side of the Harbour Bridge, it's a big world out there LOL...
