How politicking and empire building ruined Wests Tigers

I don't understand your point.

How many other teams have failed to make the top 8 of a 16 team comp 12 out of the past 15 years?

Of course it's incredibly hard to win a comp, I'm not denying that and I don't expect us to have won more comps. I do expect us to finish in the top half of the competition more than three f**king times.

Thats right Hybrid, the sad fact is that most tigers supporters dont wont to be a powerhouse club like Melb,Roosters, Broncos, theyre happy to be plodders like cronulla. The club feels no pressure from the fans and perform accordingly.

That's an absurd statement, where have you come up with this stuff?

I don't think it's absurd at all. A very large portion of our fan base accept mediocrity and when people criticise they are deemed not to be "true supporters".

And how do you know what "a very large proportion of the fan base" thinks?

Can you name one person that accepts mediocrity of our footy team?

We are having a bad end to a season, that's all, it happens.

The fact is this club has been a failure for 12 out of 15 years. It's not about the end to this season.

There are many examples of people blindingly accepting the crap this club dishes up.

Yep, generally the club has been underachievers the past 15 years.

What do you propose we do though?

Give up on the game, support other teams, or hope they can improve?

As we can't put on jerseys and play for them, I can't see too many other options.

By reading forums like this one. The fact you think that were just having a bad end to this season suggests your someone who is happy where we are placed. 3 semi's in 15 years and you think our problems are just about the ending of this season? Thats absurd.

So again, what do you propose we should do?

Well hopefully the NRL running the club will be a start.

An easy one is to start bring some money into the club by stop the insanity of playing at venues that cost us thousands. 6 extra games at Homebush instead of LO and CSS would have brought in enough money to get one of the better coaches.

Well lets hope they improve like I said earlier, through whatever means...

I can't see the point in the continual "we have been shyte previously and that means we are going to continue to be shyte" argument....

I suppose 40 odd years of following a struggling club gives me that outlook.

The malaise became entrenched in the Sheens - Noyce era. Bad performance, pathetic recruitment, salary paid and retention of players, no accountability amongst the coaching and player groups, development of boys club mentality and lame excuses accepted without any critical examination. It will take a lot of effort and will to break the resistance to change, neptotism and unaccountability that is endemic at WT. Unfortunately Potter and probably Meyer have become the first steps but are also probaly the first casualties of the new way.

As much as Potter deserves another contract extension I think he has become damaged goods and a liability in the present circumstances, better a fresh coach untainted by recnt events and not involved in the current WT set up (ie dont promote the current assistant coaches, nor someone heavily backed by factions in the old board eg Matt Parish), to continue the change environment. Nathan Brown?????

It has to start higher up in the organisation than the head coach. I feel the next coach will have the same fate as Potter.

I think Potter will not survive this, but I can't honestly think of someone that the club will be able to afford that will be any better.

They need some cranky old bloke that isn't going to be the players mate though...

Someone that is willing to drop players for poor form regardless of what they are getting paid...

I can't see anything changing until the new board comes into place and the organisation is restructured so there is separation between the board and the head coach. The board directly selecting the head coach has been demonstrated to be a disaster. The model that should be adopted is the one used by Parramatta and Penrith where a football manager overseas the football side and the CEO overseas the business side.

The other issue that disturbs me is how vulnerable the club is to media speculation. Action needs to be taken to make the club more resilient to media attacks. Seeing the way Cory Paterson and Blake Austin handled the media demonstrates that there are signs of improvement, but a lot more needs to be done in this regard.

And also drop them for poor attitude and divisiveness. . I think Pots may have been the man but unfortunately he wasn't supported by the club. The bad part about having a coach like that means a few years to get things right , so if we go with a newie we are back to square one. :(

The next coach would hope to have a good manager who would puts conditions in the contract regarding interference. Potter was coming from Bradford who were in administration and he hadn't been paid for a while and had no NRL coaching experience, so he would have signed whatever they put in front of him. Someone like Brown, Hagan or Taylor with NRL coaching experience and current paid employment would have a better bargaining position than Potter to negotiate a deal to ensure they aren't screwed from day one.
