I know I am a noob, but what about this for a solution to the lag issues.

Currently Active Users: 368 (145 members and 223 guests)

Why not do what many other forums have done and restrict access to members only. i.e. if you don't log in you can't see the forums.

This would not only reduce the weight-load on the server but will also encourage people to join...more members = more advertising $.

If people can't see the place and how good it is they're probably less likely to join in the first place...
