How to Attract Players?

All we can offer is money or opportunity.

Top quality Aussies can get both where they are.

With NRL squads going to 30 next year I'd be grabbing 5-6 nsw/qld cup players for those last spots where they might see value in competing for an opportunity on a weak roster.

Recruiting forwards is easy. We should start with Qld Cup and NSW cup. Some good prospects in those grades dying for an opportunity. Some big boppers as well. Recruiting halves is very hard as we would have to pay massive overs to get a quality half to come and all the good young halves are signed early to developmental contracts

That certainly used to be the case, isn't that where we got Brent Webb from?
The QLD Cup back then had too many good players and not enough spots on the NRL rosters to fit them all on. I'd say take a punt on some of those guys who are jumping out of their skin to get an opportunity to play FG , sure some will fail or leave after a season or two to go elsewhere, greener pastures etc but that's where succession plans should come into effect after all we do have a recruitment manager , don't we?

NRL team based in Queenstown ... that's funny. They would stick out like a sore thumb, be like a big bunch of munters among backpackers, health nuts, and landed gentry. Probably 100 leagueies in Qtown.

Used to be a fairly healthy local club team there around 1996 funnily enough. But yeah you're right, it was a joke on my part obviously, based on the fact that it's about the only place in NZ Aussie lads of footballing age show any interest in visiting.

To attract more players from Australia first thing to do is find that guy Maui and his magic fishing line. When you do, hook it up to Cape Reinga and drag New Zealand about 1000 klms north to a warmer climate. That's it.

Let's set up shop in Queenstown then, with regular games in Bali, Las Vegas and Surfers Paradise, and we'd have a line-up of 18-30 year old Aussie footy players.
