How well will Souths do in 2012

Hopefully bad enough to f**k off to Adelaide permanently

This is a thread on Souths not Cronulla, Tonearm.

I predict a 6th place finish for us. What is certain in 2012 is we will not be winning the premiership without an experienced halfback (yes I know Manly did but that was an aberration). What makes me think that we will actually make the Finals though is the arrival of Maguire.

Here we have for the first time in a while a coach who will instill in the players a tough defensive mindset and who has had recent success. I expect a return to the stingy defense of 2007 with the adoption of Melbourne-style ruck wrestling techniques Maguire learnt under Bellamy.

as other have said 6th -11th. I really rate Reynolds he was superb in the Toyota Cup grand Final 2 seasons ago i believe he kicked two 40/20's and was the second best player on the pitch for me after Shaun Johnson.

With Cherry-Evans and Johnson being in the Grand Final last season and Jeff Robson two seasons before that i think it's easier to win a competition these days without having a top class halfback which is a shame really.

Maguire i believe is the big factor i honestly believe this season could be a really big season for them but if he fails to live up to the hype they might struggle for a while. John Lang is a great transitional coach his teams play pretty basic stuff for the most part but they always tend to improve under him. Maguire needs to make the next step and get Souths into the finals this season and a premiership threat for 2013.

TBH I think they will battle to miss the spoon. No half, Sutton and the bloke who eats up 600k + of their salary cap by doing very little will ensure they miss the 8 by a mile.

It's clearly a rebuilding phase for us; We've had like 8 coaches in 11 seasons since returning to the comp and we've finally got a promising young coach with some credentials on the board!.
You're kidding me right? How many rebuilding phases do we have to have? We should have made the finals every year since the Crowe/Phac consortium took over with the amount of players we've bought. Except no-one thought it'd be a good idea to buy a half-decent half or two... But hey we've got Armani suits and little silver Rabbits and the most expensive jersey in the comp etc.

The jury is still well and truly out about Matt King. A fantastic player a few years ago, but who knows if he can hack the NRL this time around?

We're just as much of a rabble now as we were when Georgie Piggins was flogging meat trays in the Leagues club for $2 a ticket (or 3 for $5 if you felt extra lucky).

Souths will finish 6 - 9.
I might be the only one on this forum who actually rates Sutton. There have been a few flashes of brilliance mixed in with his usual dribble and if Reynolds lives up to the hype these two have the potential to be an above average halves pairing.

The team is great on paper but if the spine doesnt stand up they could finish 14th or 15th

I'm predicting big things from the Cardinal and Myrtle's this season.
  • Matt King will controversially be voted the NRL's rookie of the year, thanks to a loophole in the selection criteria;
  • Record attendances at their Homebush base;
  • Will handle the origin period better than most;
  • Asotasi will recapture his 2001 form;
  • Will finish 14th, thanks to a late season charge.

I think Souffs will exceed all expectations, they will have a stellar year and it is unlikely that they will be hit by the same number of injuries to key players again. Under a new coach they'll have a new attitude and things may start to click for them.

My prediction: 9th.

7th at absolute best. They have enough quality to win a few, but lack the halves/spine to do anything serious.

Mid to Lower mid table for mine.

This could be like Parramatta's 2011 season. Good enough to stay in contests but not good enough to finish the job.

Yeah I kind of feel sorry for Parra in 2011 - they weren't as bad as the ladder position suggested.

I might have felt sorry for them if it wasn't Parra but since it was, I had a good laugh. Nothing better than seeing the Eels fail.

Souths will do as well as the coach does

So if the coach gets to Historic Homebush on time, Souths will have a good season?
