I would like to have seen better recruitment, but those saying they should have recruited better at the 5/8th position need to be realistic. Which 5/8th should they have recruited? They bought Henry and Sezer. Carney was on the market, but could have been an expensive mistake. Lui is ok, but probably would have cost more than he's worth. Rankin would be a good 5/8th I think, but the coach still wants Zillman there. And they just went after another pivot from the cowboys.

The problem is they have too many "5/8th's" and a coach who knows too little about backline play who was given a contract he never merited. If they had a better coach they have the roster to be a consistent finals bound team. But Cartwright will keep picking players out of position and expect a smart half whose career has peaked to cover up his many deficiencies coaching a potent attack.

Cartwright will unleash his new talent "picking the team on form and position", the injury gods will turn their focus on Newcastle and Prince will be DallyM half ... 3rd.

I know Gen Yers don't rate "workhorses", but for mine Nate Myles is their key signing.

Just like a Dallas Johnson or a Kevin Campion not flashy but just gives them a backbone and work ethic they have been missing.

If he lifts the team, they could be big improvers.

Much better squad than last year, much better off season with no injuries. They should easily push for top 8

1- Zillman
2- Mead
3- Champion
4- Idris
5- Gordon
6- Sezer (Henry?)
7- Prince
8- Bailey
9- Srama
10-Douglas
11-Bird
12-Myles
13-Harrison

14-Minichiello
15-Thompson
16-James
17-White

That's a pretty good team imo.
Question marks over the 5/8 and Prince getting back to form, as well as depth beyond the 17.

Top 8 without injuries; well below if they loose a few players to long term injuries...

Another question is, is if they go awful again, will they still be financially viable?

Will finish around 10th imo.

There seems to be a myth that their bad year on the field caused a financial problem. Reality is their crowds were only down 14% on the previous year and sponsors would not be pulling out mid season becuase of on field performance. Of course they may have found it harder to attract sponsors for this year as spooners but that is just speculation.

Hopefully they get sat on their asses in rd 1 :D .......... And then improve dramatically. Be f**ked if I wanna see the suns in the papers everyday and the titans get the spoon and forgotten about.

anjado - I really rate Srama, I think he's the perfect replacement for Friend. Plenty of ticker and isn't afraid to ask questions of the defence.

Tough to say how the side will shape up let alone how they'll fare in 2012. They have a strange mix of over the hill players, raw young players, decent club players and players who could go either way. If they had a Bellamy or a Hasler at the helm I'd be confident of a Top 8 finish but Cartwright is more or less in that Neil Henry category for mine. Has his moments, but hasn't discovered that consistency great coaches need.

Idris is a good signing, they've always lacked in the three quaters and I rate Idris as one of the best young centres in the game. He was in for a big season last year until it was stunted by a nagging injury. With Prince around I believe he'll get much more time and space.

Forward pack is good but I wouldn't say great. Bailey is in the twilight of his career and while he's still one of the better props in the game I don't think he has the ability to step up in the tougher games. Similar story with Douglas but he's never shown it before. Will the move up north help his game? With the exception of 2010, Myles hasn't impressed me at club level. He'll still be a solid hand and better than Laffranchi post 2008 but not by that much. Like his former Sharks team mate, Bird is an interesting one to watch. He's been dicked around a lot at the Titans having been moved to and from the halves on a consistent basis. With some stability in the position and an improved pack around him maybe he'll be able to rediscover his 2006-08 form. Harrison is solid, Mini is inconsistent and the young forwards coming through could be anything.

The spine will surely depend on how well that pack performs but it's hard to nail down who will exactly play where. All we know is Prince will be the halfback and Srama will be his hooker. The latter is a good gain for the Titans and should make life a lot easier for Prince. We hear a lot about worst hookers in the competition...none of the names thrown around had anything on Riley Brown. That guy was ridiculously bad for the Titans. The Tits didn't fair much better in the five eigth position last year so you'd have to think Sezer or Henry would be welcome additions. But the biggest head scratcher is fullback. Now from where I sit there's two options. Short term, Zillman who has enough speed, agility and acceleration to scare people. Then there's Rankin who's raw but showed some promising signs last year and I think could be a better playmaker. It's going to be interesting to see who he goes with. If it was up to me, it'd be Zillman as I already have enough young players in the side and I'd prefer his speed but it's hardly an ideal situation for Johnny.

Already touched on the backs but I think Gordon is a big return and I think Champion might fit in at the Titans.

Ultimately, there are too many question marks for me to be confident of their chances. I'd say about 10th-11th.

At the end of 2010 Titans had every reason to think their 2011 season would be a success because they were only going to lose Rogers. The offseason rolled around and they infact lost Meyers, Friend, Laffranchi and Harro, a few weeks into the comp and the rabble lost Gordon & James, couple this with poor recruitment for the year and you got what you got - a struggling team.

1 year on it's a totally diff story thus far...recruited strongly, team is fit and Prince has some kind of spine to help him out. They will not finish in the bottom 4.

Rogers was a huge loss for them.

He basically got them into the finals in 2010.

No doubt injuries hurt them though. You could see all the signs when Friend was ruled out for the first month or so. In the blink of an eye the Tits had lost their best two players and then straight after that their most lethal weapon.

Imo Titans may have over performed last year with the team that took the field for most of the season

Hendo, White, Thompson in the centres, Rankin at FB, 1/4 of the team trialling at 5/8 :sarcasm:

Recruited heavily, but not players who will make a difference in key situations. Idris could, but he doesn't and he is a liability in the line. Champion is poo.

Still struggle in the halves. Will improve and could make the 8, but I don't think they will.

Don't look like a happy camp. Regardless of his 5 year contract, Hoss is under pressure and so is Scott Prince, who is no spring chicken any more and was nothing short of shit house in 2011.

I hope they go well for Bull, but he's destined to retire having never played in the big one.
