How will RICHMOND fare in 2006?

STRENGTHS: The Tigers made some solid ground in 2005, winning plenty of games early, and surprising some fancied opposition. The return of Nathan Brown will reinforce a very capable forward unit, which should be able to post very handy scores on most weeks. The Tiger midfield is looking good and will only improve further as Deledio & Tambling gain further experience and move to provide much needed pace out wide. The Tiger rucks are solid, if unspectacular.

WEAKNESSES: Too many years of over-dependence on big Richo have stilted the growth of alternative key forward options at Tigerland. They still look weak for options outside of the big fella and will be hoping that Hughes can make strides at Coburg. the Tigers can be caught on the hop by fit and pacy sides, although they are working hard to cover these deficiencies. Down back may be the biggest concern, where starting options are lean and cover for players like Gaspar almost non-existent.

PREDICTION: Are capable of making the eight if things fall their way, but will more than likely stabilise in a manner similar to last season.

Richmond - 10th

Depends on whether Brown gets injured. Injury-free they may come 6th but that is about it.

Will make 8th place as youngins continue to find their feet.

Expect Lids to win the best and fairest as he feeds off a very hard-working midfield (Cogs,Tuck, Johnson and tagger Chaffy) and kicks 25+ goals for the year.

Our weekness is still our defence, Kellaway, Gasper, and Bowden all are good, but getting old and slower, so hopefully we will see the rise of Thursfield and Schulz and ofcourse Newman will still be there working his arse off behind the scenes.

Up forward i think we have great players, but a bad system.
We need to somehow keep it open and have plenty of space for Pets, Richo and Brown to lead into, we can't 3 players to one in every marking contest.. obbiously this falls back onto the midfield who need to improve their kicking skills and move the ball quicker, but the forwards have to do their bit aswell.

Im looking forward seeing Patrick Bowden play on the centre half forward wing aswel as seeing rodan work his magic up forward. Somehow i dont know if Krakouer will be able to keep his spot in the team simply because we might not need him if our forwards work with Richo/Staff Rodan,Brown, (p) Bowden etc.. Although he has to be our best tackler and puts so much pressure on opposing players, so that might just help him stay in the team.

Our rucks are great, imo knobel has been a great pickup (does need to work a bit harder off the ball) but the amount of clearances we are getting from him being in the ruck is amazing and something im not used to. Simmonds should also improve this year, i hope and create another tall forward option when Stafford is out due to suspension.

So summerizing, this year will not only be just about blooding the young guys.. Terry needs to show the fans what they are and will be capable of in the future years, sadly we have the worst draw in the league...

our first 4-5 weeks will show whether it will be another loooong year with many losses, or if we are a real chance of making the top 8 and giving some players a much needed taste of finals footy!!!

Finish: 7th - 10th

Players gone after this year:
Tivva (if he has a year like last year...even though plough loves him)
Staff (too old, has been great to us though)

Maybe.. Kellaway (if he suffers any injuries, hope not!)
Maybe.. Chaff (if he has a bad year, i also hope not, i love the bloke, good tagger)

Players that need to lift this year:

Chaffey, Hartigan, Hyde (return to form before head clash) Krak (play like last year) Tambling and finally Tivendale

Piss off the commonwealth games and bring on the footy IM EXCITED!! Eat 'Em Alive

Tivva will be fine. From all reports his practice match form has been sensational. Named in the bests in at least 2 games.

If Krak has another season like last year he should be delisted!

Actually your right about krak, im thinking of two years ago lol.
He is great at putting on pressure though, needs to keep that up.

Good news on tivva, i hadn't heard he was best in those matches?? Lets hope he carries his form into the season.

Mel good prediction, now how many goals will Browny kick in the opener Vs the doggies?

Im tipping 5 goals, three snapped from the boundary and two from Richo playing on from a mark in the goal square and almost stuffing it up, typical Richo :D

So long as our midfield can go 50-50 in the clearances ...

Richo (CHF) or Staffy will kick 5 ... If they double team Matty... Who is going to play on Staff at FF? If they decide to go one out on each of them .... Richo will slaughter them as he has done many times in the past.

Going to be an interesting game, what I was thinking when we were playing against Hawthorn and Clarkson's (Wallace, Eade and Pagan have ALOT to answer for with the hated flood  ) mega flood was how much we may struggle against Footscray. Given their lack of height, you can be sure they will drop behind and try to close up the HF line as much as humanly possibe. In not one of the scratch matches have they been able to deal with this.

If the team is confident in thier teammates and just go direct direct direct at every oppurtunity ... They should spank the Dogs, if on the other hand they hold the ball up waiting for Richo to get free (as we did against Hawthorn) as is most likely - We will lose.

With the return of Browny ... I'd say 3, let's not put too much pressure on him :D lol

Look for quick running teams. The Kangaroos have been a great example of this in recent years. It is usually run-and-carry players who have an impact, while key-position power forwards take a few weeks to hit their straps.

Is this Terry instructing tipsters to run with the Hounds this week?

Do not be suprised to see this bloke line up at FF tonight if Stafford doesn't play ...

I'm actually rapt that we picked this guy up where we did, how the U18 AA CHF can fall through to the mid 20's is beyond me?!

Certainly from the sounds of things has shown more in the scratch matches so far than some of the draftees from the year before have,

I would say Thursfield will play FB should Gas go down, I actually think our backline is looking it's best since 2001, finally we have a player who can legitimately hold down CHB (Even if I think he is a CHF) in Jay, that leaves Thirsty and AK to take other options in the forward line.

My big worry is that we are still going to get killed by the Mark Willams, Stephen Milnes, quick small type forwards. Hopefully young Raines has got some toe on him and can negate that a bit.

Yes...

How the Bulldogs (in particular) and Geelong could have passed him over is beyond me??!!

Wallace & Miller would've had dueling woodies when pick 24 came along and he was still there, particularly after passing over Clark at 8.

Yes, but on the positive side, there's few genuinely classy small forwards around these days.
