They SHOULD make the top 8 but whether they will or not is another thing. They have a history of disappointment (2006 & 2008-2010) and their coach has yet to make consecutive finals. They have a squad that's almost too good to be true but it's kind of like a three little piggys scenario. They have players who are either too young or too old. The two players they have who are 'just right' aren't exactly walking fit either as they always seem to suffer injuries at inopportune times.

Still, you'd have to think that despite those issues they still have enough talent there to at least make the finals. Hell, they have the talent to win the whole damn competition - it really just depends on whether they can build on their successes in 2011 or if they'll leave it at the door and go by the way-side faster than the Roosters before them.

You can add 2005 to that list; they choked badly in the Grand Final. The Tigers made it look easy in the end.

I reckon they'll make the eight, beyond that I don't give them much hope.

Certainly have the team to go top 8, Thurston and Bowen are enough to cover up the other gaps in their lineup but those gaps will probably keep them away from the top.

I'm picking Cowboys for 2nd and Warriors for 1st
I'll even be brave enough to say this will be this years Grand Final
"Battle of 1995"

Have a soft spot for the Cowboys so if Warriors are kicked out im backing this mob to be the first 1995 side to win a premiership this year

I have the same theory about Cowboys that I have a about Tigers; Thurston/Marshall takes up too much of their cap to win a premiership.

Again, as I said with the Tigers, it will take a cheap unknown to fire in the other halves position to win it.

In theory....

You merkins who go for other teams may as well go watch another sport this winter, we got this!!!!!!!.............

In all seriousness, anything less than a top 8 is unacceptable considering the roster, top 4 is expected by most us fans.

Tariq Sims can have my babies.....

If everyone stays fit, they are top 4. Even with injuries, they should be top 8.

Losing Lui I dont think hurts them that much.

If they travel okay, they should be top 4. If they get a home semi, they will be GF bound IMO. Probably the team to beat in 2012.

Nothing wrong with that theory . . . especially if you take notice of vibes as well as common sense

I would like to see the Cowboys have a season where there are no excuses.

That would mean they finish top 4

f**k me, it IS BunniesMan

On the Cowboys I think they should be top 4
Lui will only be injured for the first few rounds by all accounts (although hopefully he will get banned sometime soon after being passed fit) so his loss is only temporary

Their forward pack was great at the back end of last year. The loss of Willie Tonga could be a factor, but I still think they're one of the real chances this year.

Mind you, I think I've said that about the Cowboys before.

Have the squad to take the title, but many teams have and have failed to do so so it is up to them really. Top 4 is very doable taking origin and injuries into account. How they are going to fill the gap left by tonga will have alot to do with it. If Linnett fires and is very capable of doing so from what i can remember of him and learns how to pass to FFL which is something tonga struggled to do then we could be seeing alot more tries. Tariq is set for big things and will be gradually fed more minutes by Henry, hopefully the pins in his ankle don't effect his power and speed as he is a pretty freakish athlete for a bloke his size.

Hopefully Taumalolo keeps progressing and pushing for a full tim first grade spot, lautiti clone. Another thing from last year was the absence of a 100% fit scott bolton. 09 he was one of our best and after being injured in round 1 against the broncs last year got put behind Tariq and played off the bench and just wasn't quite at his best. Also got Ray Thompson who has hopefully matured alot more working alongside JT.

Ash Graham as good as he improved last season is still rubbish underneath the high ball and was a major weakness last season. There is only so long you can get away with having a good work ethic and metres gained from dummy half and be rubbish at defusing kicks (although matt utai has made a career out of it). Also segs replacing payney when he came on was prone to some pretty stupid decisions close to the line that will hopefully go as he matures as he looks like a pretty good long term prospect after aaron retires.

I'll go with 5th
