Very happy with the Hunt 6 year Hunt deal . Even though it seems overs now in 5 or 6 years the likes of Taylor and co will be demanding close to twice that . He is exactly what we need a genuine halfback that isn't a part time one , nine or six but a specialist half back . I think after Cronk he is number two of the halves that best suits our needs .

I have no doubt the plan is to play Hunt with Field in the halves with Dufty at fullback . Of coarse only time will tell if Dufty and Field make it in first grade but if they do a spine of Dufty , Field , Hunt and Robson make for a exciting and creative spine .

With Widdop I wouldn't be surprised if there has already been talk internally about him wanting to return to the UK . I can't see him staying beyond this year .
I just don't know about Hunt. It will be interesting to see how he goes away from a pretty good team too ours. Maybe it's got something to do with my hatred for the Broncos but I'm not convinced he will thrive and can lead our club out of the sh*t it has got itself into. Would accept Benny back in a heart beat though (jeez that's hard to say). If the rumours are true let hope that the next coach can bring us out of this mess. Go Saints!

Agree with you there DFL. I remember when Hunt was trying to establish himself in first grade & it took a few years,Lockeyer saying this guy doesn't realize how good a player he is.I also believe he is a confidence player. When he looses his confidence with us & at some stage he will, we have no Wayne Bennet in our ranks( a la Jamie Soward ) i very much hope i am wrong
IMO before spending all this money i would love to have seen Dufty given a go at half.He grew up playing half & in the last 2 years his passing game & setting up support players have improved enormously. With proper guidance & coaching he could be sensational. With the added benefit of Dugan staying in his correct position of fullback

i wouldn't say we're in huge sh*t. all we need is a proper coach with structures in place, the signing of hunt is outstanding and will give us direction.

Ben Hunt is a class player , make no mistake about that and class players will always have the same ability , in whatever team they play in .
The Joint Venture sees him as the player to build a team around , hopefully not as a captain , but more so for the our outstanding juniors coming through the ranks . The experience that he will be able to pass on to those players will be invaluable .

Whoever the new coach may be in 2018 , should allow him to play his natural game and that is to guide the team around the park . Should this coach also select players that will compliment Hunts running game , all the better for the teams attack .He does have the skill that the Dragons need , however it is also up to the other players to pull their own weight , not rely purely upon the 6 million dollar man to do it all on his own .

However , with a decent coach , his chances of success would be far greater then with our present coach .

I don't know if he is that good a player and I certainly don't think he's worth the money he is signing for. He plays well in a team with quality players around him and is untried with anything lesser.I guess time will tell how he goes in a team with less quality players around him and a coach who is not going to be able to help when times are tuff (hoping this changes by then). I'm not sure what % of the cap he is taking up but it must be a fair chunk. I hope this leaves room to retain the quality juniors that we keep producing but are unable to keep.

I also hope he has signed knowing that there is a new coach when he starts and that he will be able to sign some more quality players to compliment the ones we have at the moment. Hopefully Mary hasn't drained them of their skills and turned them into 2nd rate players in the next 12 months.

I personally think his signing is a very good one. I also liked his honesty when asked about signing, saying the offer was to good to refuse for his future instead of the normal responses players give.
Three years ago when Hunt was coming off the bench playing dummy half i emailed Doust about signing him as a half & his reply was he is not in our "forseeable plans moving forward".
I bet he would have been a little bit cheaper then.

Yeah but if we got him a couple of years ago, he'd be ruined by now under Mary

A good coach would do very well with the talent we have. With Hasler and Hunt in 2018, I believe we will be a very competitive side.

Former Broncos skipper Corey Parker has defended Ben Hunt's decision to leave Brisbane to link up with the St George Illawarra Dragons on a lucrative five-year deal starting in 2018.

Some have questioned the motives surrounding the halfback's move, but Parker moved quickly to support his ex-teammate.

In an ever-changing world, the 347-game veteran said modern-day sport had become a business and big deals such as this were only going to become more frequent.

"There's a good opportunity for Ben Hunt to follow his dream. He's got a young family now so he's got to start looking out for himself and his family," Parker said.

"One thing I have learnt over a period of time is the game is a big wheel and it'll keep going with or without you. Ben has got a year left at Brisbane as we all know and hopefully it's a good one.

"One thing for sure we'll know this year is that there'll be some coaches leave, there will be some players leave clubs either mid-year or at the end of the year – it's all part of what we do. It's a professional business.

"Yes, we've heard about the Ben Hunt story, but it won't be the last of the year. I think as a fan, at least they know now moving forward what's going on. It's not a mid-year thing; the fans can get on with their business as can the players."

Speaking at Rugby League Central after being named an NRL Ambassador for 2017, Parker also weighed into the debate surrounding who should replace him as Broncos skipper this season.

The former lock forward said there was no shortage of candidates and would back whatever decision Broncos coach Wayne Bennett made.

"You've got Darius Boyd who has obviously been spoken about a fair bit and Adam Blair is a really good leader. I think Andrew McCullough would do a good job, but take your pick really," he said.

"One thing I do know is that over a long period of time, Brisbane has had a really good senior playing group. Any one of those guys would fit the mould quite well.

"For the Broncos, it'll be who Wayne thinks will do the best job, so we'll have to wait and see who that is."
