Well at last we have got a half back.
Is the club turning the corner.
We have retained the best of you juniors
We have extended frizz.
Now make sure we have new coach signed.
Well now I am excited about this year
The boys will rip in .
With so many of contract they will have to have a great season if they want there contracts extended.
Welcome aboard Hunty .
Welcome to the greatest team of them all the team with the big red v.

Interesting statistics over the last 3 years by a Broncos fan on twitter. Apparently Hunt is the only half to rank in the top 5 for halves in the following categories: try assists, tries, line breaks, line break assists and tackles.

Thanks for posting Brissy.

Must say I'm not that surprised as I saw him as a quality allround halfback.

What i did not expect is that he ranks no. 1 in tackles and while his efficiency is low at 82% at least he doesn't shirk his defensive workload.

Anyhow, according to that graph we have the most efficient tackling halfback in the comp as well with JDB lol.

Min. 20 games (even though he wears the 13 he has convinced someone that he has played 20 games at half!)

Too funny.

I think this will be more of the same for Dragons. Paying overs to sign a half with no kicking game. Probably pair him with a half that he doesnt gel with at all.

Things were supposed to change with Widdop. But outside of the Storm system and without a great hooker and half feeding him his flaws were exposed.

Hunt might excel at the Dragons. But I really see him going the same way that Widdop did. Only time will tell. If they get a decent 5/8th and coach it could turn them into a top 4 side. But add Hunt into the current roster... they're fringe top 8 at best.

According to Hunt, he (like most of us on here) likes the look of our new-look forward pack calling them "one of the biggest and most mobile packs in the comp" and "as a half, that's what we look for"

Additionally, he said that the gong was what appealed to him, "that country coastal town" was an important factor in his signing.

Looks like the gong can be an attraction for quality players after all.

Hey Dragsters, don't think you read that right. De Belin is quoted as highest efficiency in the Competition (players must have played 20 games). Green is the most efficient halves tackler.

Yeah you're right, I did misread it. Thanks for pointing that out.

Means we will have the most willing to tackle halfback in the comp along with the games most efficient tackler JDB along side him, sounds good to me.

Hunt Signing Official

The St George Illawarra Dragons have announced the signing of halfback Ben Hunt, who will join the Club in 2018 on a five-year deal following today's completion of all official documentation.

The Australian Test representative, Hunt, 26, will join the Dragons from the Brisbane Broncos at the completion of the upcoming NRL season.

A former Dally M Under 20s Player of the Year, Hunt has played 166 NRL games to date since his 2009 debut.

St George Illawarra Dragons Director of Rugby League Pathways Ian Millward said Hunt's signature was crucial for the Red V moving forward.

"We were looking for a really competent, world-class halfback. It was about signing someone who has been a regular halfback and who has played at the highest level," Millward said.

"Ben's also a good family man and quite composed as a person. The Red V fans should be over the moon."

Millward said however the club's immediate focus remains on the upcoming 2017 season.

"Ben's made a massive commitment to the Dragons but he also has a season to go with the Broncos," Millward said.

"It's important he has a great season with the Broncos, and it's important we have a great season with the personnel we currently have."

Millward said the Club remained focused on player retention across the board - from junior representative teams to the NRL.

"We're still very active internally as well," Millward said.

"I don't want to speculate on specific names at present because we're in negotiations but we are progressing well."

Widdop was fine until his confidence was coached out of him, get a decent coach and watch him go!
