This aint no joke.

Hunt is gone. Expect him to play for the Southport Sharks next year before moving onto the Gazzas in 2011.

Not a great thing for our code.

well guys like lockyer could well have played afl. in fact lockyer was considered a very good afl player in his time.

i could see hunt as a good afl player, but I dont really know much about the game in that respect....i always thought basketball player=good afl player with the lockyer prototype exception. maybe not.

Lockyer played junior aussie rules. Not AFL. I think it was the U11's or something....

I have no doubt the guy will go okay in AFL. He's quick...but can he kick? You know, that's kind of important.

How the f**k can you possibly miss a target that size in AFL? You are guaranteed at least 1 point unless you are completely geniused.

You don't need to be a great kicker, mediocre should be enough to do the job.

Really? Some of those boggerballers couldn't hit the side of a barn. That clod they had on the Australias Greatest Athlete show got beat in a goalkicking comp by Billy Slater and Andrew Symonds ...

The rumour on Nova was that he would join Japanese Rugby for a year and then come back to the Gold Coast AFL team, which would complete quite a slide.

AUS/QLD rep for League -----> Nobody in Union -----> AFL on the Gold Coast

where do you go after that?

A mundine boxing promotion?

At the end of the day it comes down to money.

How much will Hunt get in league? $300k-$400k a year?

How much will he make if he has a holiday playing Union overseas and then comes back to play AFL? $500k-$600k a year?

Let's face it - Rugby League is always going to lose players who will look after themselves first as there will be alternative opportunities to make more money in other codes.

But..... will the game miss him? I doubt it. Will AFL benefit greatly from converting league fans to AFL just because he walked out on our code? I doubt it - they'll still have to watch AFL regardless of who is playing it. Will he still have a piss funny name? Of course.

WTF?

LOL

So, what do the AFL think they'll gain from this if Hunt does go to AFL?

1) He masters that stupid game in 5 minutes and everyone laughs.
2) He is a lemon and they keep playing him for "RL fan interest" even though he's as useful as tits on a bull.

Of course they could be doing it simply to put someone in the new Gold Coast team that Queenslanders have actually heard of...

Or this story is a beat-up and is just for the publicity....

No great loss really. He can be replaced. When Gasnier and Sonny Bill left everyone said what a big loss it was and the harm it would do to League. Now they barely rate a mention. No one cares. For each one that goes there is another that comes through.

He will excel at AFL because League players actually catch the ball when it is kicked to them. AFL players only occasionally catch the ball, and then they only have to hold onto it for a couple of seconds for it to be considered a mark. Plus he can tackle, not many of them can. Any Rugby League fullback or winger who can kick a ball ok would make it at AFL. On the reverse, I don't think too many AFL players could make it at League.

FMD, who signs players in any sport who are coming from a completely unrelated sport? Maybe Hazem can play in the A-league next year.

This is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.

I just don't know how AFL on the Gold Coast will go. Titans have done great up there. Everywhere you go on the Gold Coast there is kids with Titans gear on. They have established a strong foot hold and are successful on the field. You would think the AFL team will struggle on the field for a few years, and if Titans continue to have success, then things are gonna be tough for them.

Goalkicking is not a skill every player needs to have. Brett (Who is a midfielder not a forward) can hit a target on the run from 70 metres, be it the goal or a player ... But his kicking for goal from a set shot is decidedly average.

If they had pulled in a genuine forward whose role it is to solely kick goals and they got shown up by anyone in other sports than that would certainly be laughable.

As for Karmichael Hunt - Well  If this doesn't work, GCFC and himself are going to be a laughing stock. Would have been funnier is WS18 had tried it ... Just adding to the failure it'll inevitably be.

Haha, surely this is just a stunt?

If true though, how apt that Bogger boy Hunt will finally find a home in Boggerball.

I see what they're up to.

They realise that there is no interest in AFL on the GC or in Western Sydney so they're going to raid the Rugby League ranks to give the two new teams players who we can identify with.

Benji next... lol

Just a quick question regarding AFL balls. Has anyone ever tried catching one? Out of all the balls from different codes that I've stuffed around with throwing and kicking in the park, the AFL ball would have to be the easiest of all balls to catch with the possible exception of a Gridiron ball.

They're kinda soft coated things that just stick to your hands regardless. You have to be making some sort of effort to drop one.

Which is why they do drop them - getting touched without the ball gets you a free kick in AFL so they throw them to the floor and pretend it's been dropped. It's more a form of acting with a ball than a game of football when you think about it. Oh well.
