Yeah, hasn't Smith officially signed with the Sharks for two years?

Eh, at least you'll get to see Hunt and the mighty Tigers.

There was rumours Easts have released him but I'm pretty sure he will play today then piss off. The Broncos have 'released' him in that he won't be training with them as he wasn't happy with their offer which involved a 2yr deal.

My understanding is that we table a decent 2 year offer to Smith, But he isn't prepared to wait behind Lockyer and Wallace, who IMO are both much better than Smith

Smith, who left the Eels in controversial circumstances early in the 2008 season, yesterday agreed to terms on a two-year contract with Cronulla. However, his release from Easts, a feeder club to the Brisbane Broncos, was yet to be settled last night. Des Morris, the Easts chief executive, was unwilling to release the 25-year-old without major compensation from the Sharks.
With the move hanging in the balance, it was expected that Smith would turn out for the Tigers today in their Queensland Cup match against Central Comets at Langlands Park. Registered with Easts and the Broncos, Smith was facing limited opportunities in the NRL in Brisbane with Darren Lockyer and Peter Wallace ahead of him in the pecking order at Red Hill.
Cronulla chief executive Richard Fisk said last night the Sharks had put their offer to Smith ''on hold'' while the player's manager, David Riolo, continued to negotiate a release. ''The Broncos are happy to release him,'' Fisk said. ''Des Morris at Easts in Brisbane is not keen to release him without major compensation. It's quite sad for the kid. It's a great opportunity for him. What we have done is suspend our offer until he gets clearance from Easts.''

The offer isn't very decent. Riolo would want much more let me tell you. Morris has every right to want 'major compensation'

Whole Comets team was ordinary, but yeah I guess Hunt was pretty average. Team didn't do him any favours though.

Has it been confirmed that he's gone to Cronulla? I'm kind of disappointed we've lost him, TBH I haven't been impressed with Ben Hunt so far in first grade and I was hoping Tim Smith would stick around until Lockyer retires. I'm not suprised though, I wouldn't want to wait in the wings for the next two seasons either.

Last I heard was Easts wouldn't release him until they were compensated for the loss. That was a day or 2 ago and I haven't heard anything since.

Check out our lineup in the games that Benny Hunt has played. You can hardly judge him based on his NRL performances because all of our good players were out.

Tim Smith has done absolutely nothing for the Sharks. Goal kicking and general kicking in particular has been awful.

Haha I can't wait to see this thread go dead over the next few days whilst all the Tim Smith lovers go back into their closets.

Ben Hunt showed some good signs last night ... if he could string a few games together he'll start showing his potential.

The Tim Smith lovers forget that if Tim Smith has been given a go, Hunt would have gone ... the last thing we need with Lockyer's retirement imminent.

Hunt is a proven "consistent" performer ... something Tim Smith never showed even at his peak.

In Under 20's..... I am glad we kept Hunt I really hope he becomes the player he has been tipped to become. Tim Smith is a star he really would have done wonders at the Broncos, it is a shame we couldn't keep both. Smith had a superb kicking game for the Sharks tonight,.

You kidding yourself:lol:Talk about a Smith lover and you criticise me for liking Dodds! Warren Ryan who is a far better judge than you said Smith's kicking was ordinary and Barrett far superior.

I watched the game Smith's kicking game was much better than Wallace and Lockyers has been all season. Try to remeber the game was played in horrible conditions. Also try to remeber that Warren Ryan is anit Queenslander not to mention anti Ricky Stuart. Tim Smith has talents something Dodds lacks.

The Club has invested a lot of time and money in Ben Hunt. Given the choice (which they probably were) the club has opted for Hunt as the long-term half-5/8 option ... which I totally agree with.

Even a quick glance at Tim Smith's history shows you why Hunt is the best option ... granted he is yet to prove himself in first grade.

I agree I would have kept Hunt also otherwise there is no good putting time into any youngsters. In fairness to Smith he only played a few seasons of NRL and his first one was with a pretty awesome Parra side. It all went down hill from there though.

Tim Smiths kicking game wasn't that amazing. I don't think Lockyer's was bad last night either.

It helped that his forwards were doing a great job also.
