His call isn't too bad, but your shove is imo. He's raising UTG, and you've respected that raise enough not to repop him pre (which I think is good with your stack size), so the shove doesn't really make a lot of sense. If he's playing LAGish then you can give him a range of 22+, AJo+, ATs+, KQ and a few suited connectors. When you show aggression on a 678r board in this spot it should scare the f**k out of him, meaning he'll only call with sets, overpairs, 2 pair hands, pair+straight draw combos and maybe 55 (depending on your image). Against such a range Jacks are a 2-1 dog.

I definitely bet smaller on flop and shove turn.

not really sure where to put this, but this is the worst beat I have ever seen (I don't think it's mathematically possible to have a worse beat)..this was early-middle stages of a 90 man SnG...just as well it didn't happen to me...it wasn't a particularly well played hand or anything but it was still a sick beat

so it started with a 5 way limped pot...I had 7 4 in the BB

Pot (300)

flop was 6 5 5

SB bets 180...I call with open ender, thinking I have implied odds (correct?)...middle position (initial limper) calls, everyone else folds

Pot (840)

turn 6

check, check, check

Pot (840)

river 6

MP goes all in for his last 2K, SB calls

SB shows 67s
MP shows 55

so sick lol

just as well i didn't hit my straight, I would have got crushed

Another one later last night.

10 players left, 7 get paid in a 90 man SnG.

Bigstack (very loose) raises 4xBB UTG, all fold to me in the BB. I have Ah/Kd. I call.

Flop comes As, 6c, 9d.

Bigstack raises pot, I go all-in with my last 1500 chips. (Blinds were 150/300).

Bigstack insta calls.

He shows 4c, Jc.

Turn is 10c, river is Qc.

Again, as soon as he turned over his cards, I knew what was coming. I probably should have put all my chips in pre-flop, but that generally doesn't work anyway because these wankers insta-call then as well.

Best to go all in pre, once you get into the pot you're pot committed anyway. But yeah if he was willing to commit that amount of chips PF just shove and hope.

Don't you play on Stars? Top 12 usually get paid on there...

Fairly decent reply for a league board.

The shove is the correct move on this board, I believe it is as do some of my peers who play this game for a living. I do respect your opinion however and your line would be correct also I believe. The villain was extremely LAG (known pro) and he was calling any bet on the flop/turn with his implied odds.

My shove asked for the call given I believed I was ahead once the flop hit and he checked.

I got unlucky quite simply.

shouldn't you have 3bet pre given laggy villain?

Probably wasting my time here, but you want them to call when you're ahead.

If he's extremely laggy then obviously 3betting is an ok option, but my question to you is, when you 3bet to something like 3k and he shoves, what are you doing? The trouble with 3betting with a 30bb stack is that you put yourself in very awkward spots if villain 4bet shoves. In my calculations you'd be getting something like 1.7-1 on the call, which is probably a call even against a range as tight as JJ+ and AK, but it's definitely a marginal spot that I try to avoid.

Because it's possible to play them profitably. If it folds to me on the button in a 6max game and I have an ace, I'm raising 100% of the time. It doesn't mean I'm going to go crazy if an ace flops, but I'll feel reasonably confident that I can get some value against worse hands.

I take big notice of people who are raising with rag ace regularly. If I pull a monster and they're in the hand, they're the one I want to play against.

I rarely play rag ace.

Well 6-max is a different animal altogether. If your Ace is suited you should raise from any position.

But I was referring more to full ring. Of course a weak Ace can still be played profitably provided you're aware of the relative strengths and weaknesses of your hand against your opponent's.

In tournament situations I try to avoid them where possible, particularly early on.

Once the latter stages come you'll be raising to steal the blinds more often than not so the cards aren't really that relevant. A-3 or 7-2 - same same.

Well if you know someone is raising with Ace-rag etc regularly then you should be re-raising them no matter what you hold.

That also applied to anyone that keeps raising on the button in a cash game. There is no real value in doing so, so they're probably weak. At least if you re-raise them from the blinds a few times you'll shut them down for a while.
