I love the fact that NSW fans pin their hopes on Lockyer's absence.

As if he is going to vanish off the face of the earth.

Have a look at the footage of any of the games.Note the number of ex-QLD Origin players who are still fully involved at Origin time, though of course not in a playing role.

Do you really think that Darren Lockyer isn't going to throw himself into the motivation and strategy sides of contributing to another QLD win?

I know that Locky has said that he doesn't want to coach.I tend to think that what he is referring to is full-time coaching. He genuinely wants to spend time with his family.I feel certain that he wouldn't preclude contributing in some manner to next year's 3 Origin games. In other words, just because he isn't playing, don't think that QLD will be without his contribution. That raspy voice will be doing what he has always done for the team.Keeping them focused and providing leadership.

No more will injury diminish his contribution.Lockyer will be able to avail himself, unhindered by that.

Players of the caliber of a Darren Lockyer come along rarely in a lifetime.Given the towering figure that he is in the Game in general and Origin in particular,NSW fans are somehow convinced that this is the turning-point which they so desperately need.Well,if he is still there to provide tactical and inspirational support,I don't know that I would be quite so confident.

Heck,I wouldn't completely write-off the possibility that the guy running out to fulfill the role that Langer currently plays during the game,of relaying coaching instructions and passing-on a few of his own observations, couldn't be carried-out by Darren Lockyer. It's a great way of continuing his previous leadership role, and by having the time during the game to stand back and watch the things that one can't see when they are playing in the line,he may well be able to advise the team leaders about opportunities and weaknesses that he would otherwise not have had the time or vantage point to notice if he was participating.

His on-field presence may actually contribute tactic-wise during the game, better than they are currently succeeding(and the results for that as it stands now speak for themselves).

The presence of Allan Langer and Andrew Johns on the field for QLD and NSW respectively, shows that it is far from regarded by the elite players as a minor role.A keen observer would note that it is no accident that the men who involve themselves at that role during the game are the best playmakers that have ever played Origin.Lockyer is thus tailor made for that role.

Like I said, don't be surprised where Darren Lockyer will turn-up at Origin time. You may not have seen the last of him yet on the Origin field. :)

Locky has been less of a factor on the paddock than Smith, Thurston and Slater in the last couple of years. But NSW are catching up fast, maybe not in the halves but pretty much everywhere else.

lol pinning our hopes? such a moron. We were commenting on how without Lockyer the Maroons will be a different team, whether it be a negative or positive difference will remain to be seen next year.

Watch how many times Stuart and the NSW team members mention Lockyer's absence next year.Sticky thinks that he is the king of mind games. If they think that it'll make no difference, then it wouldn't be worth discussing. That is not the case. They will mention it because they think that mentioning it,itself, will make a difference. They will mention Lockyer's absence in media interviews because realistically they can't talk-up their own potential. This year they could make great fanfare about Stuart's New Era.Prior to Game 3,they could make great fanfare about the Game 2 win.Was anyone boasting about Game 2 in the hours after their Game 3 defeat? No.Why?Because it was irrelevant.Nothing had changed.Game 3 was their chance to prove that they had indeed caught-up to QLD.Game 3 proved that Game 2 was a flash in the pan.Fool's gold.

The attempt to gain any psychological advantage over the Maroons can't simply fall back on the old chestnut of Game 2,simply because it is water under the bridge. The longer they rely on Game 2 for their assessment of themselves, the more they are living in the past and not addressing the fundamental issues that are consigning them to losers status.

It's called resting on your laurels.

Next year without the Stuart novelty factor, they have to find a media selling factor. This year they could trot-out things like Uate(the great Fijian hope) or Dugan(''I'm gonna be better than Slater'') or Glenn Stewart.Well since none of those guys delivered a series win,who do you point to?Referring back to Game 2 is resting on your laurels and is really a negative to your making real progress. So what have you got to say when the question arises as to your chances of winning 2012?Darren Lockyer's absence,of course.

As long as NSW thinks that Game 2 is their natural game.As long as NSW thinks that Darren Lockyer's absence gives them an advantage. As long as NSW thinks that they have ''caught-up with QLD'',they will be living in fantasy land.Hence the only Origin series that they will be winning,is in their fantasies.

Hey guys, keep telling yourself that you have caught-up with QLD.Keep telling yourselves that Lockyer's absence is your good fortune.Keep telling yourselves that Game 2 shows how good you are.Because the more that you focus on those things, the more that you have taken your eye off the ball.Because they are fantasies.

As for selling-out ANZ this year as proof that NSW's fans aren't despondent:You might have sold-out the stadium, but you only managed it in the days before the match, with weeks of appeals to fans to please attend in the newspapers, radio,TV and internet.Suncorp stadium sells-out in 30 minutes. If ANZ was ours,it would sell-out in 30 minutes.

The ANZ sell-out this year was the first time in a few years.Suncorp sells out every time an Origin game is played, every year.Whether we are winning or not. When you can match that, then you'll know that you have your fans' seal of approval.

Bookmakers aren't stupid.Ask them who will be getting long odds, and who will get short odds next year. :)

Threads like this are prone to blowing up in your face, I'm betting NSW go into 'don't give a f**k' mode and it'll be another good series.

I seem to recall similar sentiments being expressed when I predicted that the Kamikaze Five would cost you the series, prior to Game 1 this year.

Then after Game 2,I was told effectively that my prediction had blown-up in my face.

After Game 3,the knives were out for The Five.

Nothing will get fixed by getting annoyed with me.I'm only telling you what you need to hear, but don't want to hear.NSW's real enemies are Stuart and The Five. They are the authors of your plight.

The hilarious thing,is that Stuart is rock solid convinced that he has the winning formula.Hang on to Game 2 and the notion that you have caught-up with QLD,and you guarantee that QLD hangs onto the shield.

Haha I'm QLD through & through mate, but I have seen improvement in NSW.

Law of averages and all that but I would love to see 7 series in a row, its mind boggling how many good players QLD has so its a good chance.

Of course they will mention that. Lockyer has been playin for QLD for a long time, his absence will be mentioned by both NSW and QLD players.
It's the same for whenever a legend of SOO retires.

the fact that you feel the need to start this thread and write multiple essays shows that you are in fact worried about it.

He'll disappear off the Rugby League earth, expect to see him pop up at a reds, firebirds, roar, lions, *insert other QLD team* forum though.

Qld might take out the national midget throwing title this year & he'll be calling it "another example of Maroon superiority"

Lockyer not playing might be a factor.
When Wally retired in 1991 NSW won 92/3/4/6/7.
When Johns retired in 2005 QLD has not lost since.
I think QLD will make it 7, but they have to win game 1 in Melbourne
