MANLY captain Ben Kennedy has revealed he feared teammate Brent Kite had broken his neck as a result of Parramatta forward Fuifui Moimoi's horror high tackle on Saturday night.
Moimoi was sent off for the tackle on Kite during the Eels' courageous 31-18 win at Parramatta Stadium and could face a lengthy suspension at the judiciary, perhaps up to 10 matches, on Wednesday night.
Kite was heavily concussed by Moimoi's 50th minute tackle described as "dangerous" by Kennedy and was unable to continue.
Doctors would not allow Kite to sleep on the way home in Manly's team bus and he was driven home from Manly Leagues Club, where the bus stopped, by teammates.
Kennedy was upset on the field at Moimoi's tackle and checked on Kite with the team doctors attending to him on the ground.
"I was emotional at the time," Kennedy told The Daily Telegraph.
"I am close to 'Kitey'. I thought he had broken his neck.
"His breathing was really weird too and he wasn't moving. I was really concerned.
"It was pretty ordinary. It was a very, very high shot.
"He (Moimoi) threw a swinging arm at me three tackles earlier. I had a go at him but all he did was look at me and squeeze my neck."
Kennedy said Moimoi could face a hefty suspension.
"Kitey was out for a long time," Kennedy said.
"I saw that bloke last week (North Queensland's Robert Tanelu) hurt his neck and that made me sick.
"He (Moimoi) did something similar last time and got a nine week suspension. His record isn't too good.
"You just can't have blokes doing that. It's dangerous.
"Kitey wasn't allowed to sleep on the bus. I know his family at home were very worried." Manly hooker Michael Monaghan was aware of the concerns for Kite, who will enjoy the rest through Manly's bye next weekend.
"It was a pretty bad shot," Monaghan said.
""You're always worried when someone is knocked out before they hit the ground."
Parramatta coach Jason Taylor said Moimoi was "upset".
"He plays that style of game where that's going to happen," Taylor told 2GB. "But he's worked hard on his tackling technique this year." The Eels led 24-6 when Moimoi was marched and held on to win the game by six points.
PARRAMATTA last night gave reasons why the son of Manly co-owner Max Delmege was evicted from a Parranmatta Stadium private suite on Saturday night.
Robbie Delmege was asked to leave but claimed he was not drunk.
Fitzgerald however said: "A person was intoxicated and banging on the wall of the private suite. He was unruly and it was unacceptable. He got a warning but did not heed that warning. He was then escorted out of the venue by the Parramatta Stadium Trust security."
