I don't think you can blame Stephen Kearney for a problem that has always hamstrung the Kiwis; their effort and consistency has always been questionable, and their attitude in defence can also vary greatly.

New Zealand have been by far the best international team in the tournament so far, and I think this loss won't deter them at all. The Kiwis have been criticised that they only put in for the big games, I believe they will put in a much better 80 minute (or closer to) performance in the final, as they will have something tangible to play for (at least in their minds).

I wouldn't take too much from this at all. The Kiwis are a hard team to coach, and you cannot tell me their 76-12 annihilation of PNG was not partially the result of great coaching (they performed for the majority of the 80 minutes and had well structured and brilliant attacking play, plus - for the most part - a great attitude in defence).
Sika was very dissapointing, Perrett got completely outplayed, Isaac Luke didn't look to be playing his best and Marshall only really fired up during the end.
Maybe Kearney could be aiming for a repeat of what we did against the dragons last year where we got hammered when it didn't matter and hammered them back when it did.
We all know what the Kiwis are capable of and you're right, they have looked to be the best team in this half-assed international comp so far and on their day could thrash arguably the weakest Australian team in more than a decade.

Yeah I agree with all that, I think Sika actually make one brilliant run but aside from that he didn't do too much. I think their biggest problem was their attitude in defence, their forwards not gelling together as well as in previous games, and also their outside backs were pretty quiet.

i'm sorry, but NZ had looked the BEST so far in the Tri Nations......until tonights loss

and took care of PNG alright - much more clinically than Australia did....??

i can't agree with your assessments as 1 loss (against Australia.........) doesn't sound alarm bells to me and i still think the final will be very interesting

NZ may have looked the best but to be honest the standard has been poor the whole series so far! NZ were awful in week 1, England were just worse, they disposed of PNG as they should and last night they were terrible again when it mattered (near the try line).

The Aussies had been attrocious up until last night where they finally looked decent but were still too inconsistent for such a good team!

I don't remember them be that good in the WC either, they just happened to win the last game that mattered. Last year they threw away the game against Australia in the first week and ended up with a draw and then took care of France, again as they should and then lost to an England side that only turned up for 40 mins a game......and Australia destroyed them (England) in the final.......

NZ have NO excuses when it comes to international footy imo, most of the guys play in the NRL which is ridiculously intense and tough, there is no reason why they shouldn't be as fit as Australia and they certainly have the talent like the Aussies do......why are they always looking unfit and unstructured????????

I agree with this.

I think NZ has been the best team so far until tonight.

Australia for mine was always going to win last night because of the fact they had some new guys in there and was "playing for a position next week", NZ didnt do that and kept their same team so the players had pretty much nothing to play for and bar injury would be there next week.

I dont think SK will be to worried and dont think last night was a game we can read in to, to determine the winner next week.

To me mate, that's the way they have been since their inception. You can't blame Kearney for a problem that has dogged the Kiwis since they first had an international team, that is going a bit overboard. They have always been massively inconsistent, you can't blame Kearney for that when no other coach has fixed it. He's done a better job with them than Daniel Anderson has, for example.

It was a dead rubber. If N.Z> come out and win next week, we`ll all be saying Kearney is a master psychologist!

Yeah exactly.

I don't think I've ever seen a team beat another team two weeks in a row, or even twice in the space of a couple of weeks.

I think it's for that reason that Sheens rested a couple of Australia's key players.

Problem is that they got a few injuries.....their chances for winning next week certainly took a shot in the arm......

If NZ had Hayne playing for them they would've thrashed any Australian side by 30 points at least.

I am not concerned about NZ's performance the other night.

BUT - I will be very concerned if they don't do anything different for the final and cop a towelling again.

And if they decide to take a penalty kick again then I will be worried that SK hasn't got a clue!

listen up this is the rule on penalty kicks: ONLY take a penalty kick when it will move you more than six points ahead (or to eat up time near the end of the game) NEVER EVER take it when you are more than two points behind!

well if we were going to target SK after last weeks performance than I'm sure we can give him more than an ounce of credit after last nights win..
