So you were all impressed by that????

Still lacked any structure, 2 forward passes that led directly to tries (I know the Auusies were lucky with 1), DA was sh*t on for the same thing this year, without Benji, the kiwis have nothing......congratulations to him though, it is always nice to see someone other Australia win.

I stand by my original thoughts, they (the board) are pinning all their hopes on a rookie coach, who will of course take time to build something......after seeing the NZ games I can't say I would be totally confident in my decision and a little nervous!

Even though they were by far the best team in the Four Nations this year? I think you are being very negative mate, if Aussies were crap and beat PNG 42-nil, then how does that explain the 76-12 thrashing New Zealand gave them?

I watched the final vividly, and I can tell you Kearney deservedly should get a lot of credit for that win. They were smashed the week previous, which would be a huge mental blow to any team.
But they came out, and they defended like probably no Kiwi side has before them. The had venom and a genuine awesome attitude in defence, that's something you rarely see in a Kiwi side. That immediately tells me Kearney helped there a tonne.

They played with a huge amount of confidence, and they played structured footy most of the match aside from the last twenty minutes.
I think you are criticising Kearney unfairly, considering the Kiwi team proved that when they play razzle-dazzle without structure, that is when they thrive - as does Benji in particular.

To me that sounds like great coaching......to turn them around from a crushing defeat and instil so much confidence and fervour in defence into a Kiwi team that usually lacks either of those.

Rep footy isn't the place to judge a coach's ability to install structure and develop players. That's because rep teams have limited time together, and because they are made up of experienced players with less need for development.

Kearney showed last night that he's a great motivator - something our club hasn't had since Gibson.

tbh, we have more issues with the mediocre roster than whether SK can handle the head coaching role, infact I have no doubt in the world that he could handle it but any coach will do it tough with the current mob that we've got.

there were 2 things that got the kiwis home:
1. (most importantly) Benji (even tho he can't kick - lol)
2. self belief that they could do it - something kiwi teams have struggled with at times

now, looking at the SK effect there - obviously (1) don't reflect diddly on the coaching ability, benji is just an awesome talent when he is switched on - but (2) is something largely instilled by a coach and something we really need desperately

I don't think our roster is any worse off. And apparently Anderson was a hopeless coach and Kearney is a great coach, so we should at least finally win a comp in the next year or two.

for a start they're a year older, which is a real concern, we're also carrying some journey men that other clubs wouldn't want, we don't have a 7 and we've got soem health issues with some of our players namely Reddy and Grothe.

also, the SK arguement has been done to death and not many hear believe he's a hopeless coach.

Yes I see what you mean.

Hopefully we can finish ahead of a few teams and finish 13th or 14th. Anything better than this would be a real bonus.

We are outsiders and if we string a few together we will still have doubters even in our own ranks due to past seasons. I think we have a chance next year but it is all about playing to our strengths and the right attitude when we are out there.
