Twizzle my understanding is different as I thought Thorpe was disqualified on a False Start Rule.

Quoted from Laurie Lawrence:

`The false start is a rule of FINA, the international body that governs swimming' `It is there for all major events and is enforced at all the major meets, even for young children'.

Considering this was a meet to select our fastest swimmers to compete for Australia ... the ruling doesn't make sense to me.

;-) I'll pay that Knights04!

He was DQ from that race under the FINA rule, however its up to the selectors to pick him if they see fit.

They need to be careful not to set a precedent of picking swimmers that did not finnish first or second in the national titles, otherwiswe they will be open to litigation in the future, from every one whoe finishes third or lower.

Craig Stevens can stand aside if he wishes, that is the easy way out for the selectors. Otherwise they need to be very carefull about any decision they make or any precendent that they set.

The plot thickens.
