Well not much you can do when you got prob one of the best openers and big hitters in the game..... and doesn't help when he not in a good mood either

I hope he captains the T20 side, they will never win

Seems to be on now, I guess Ponting just chose Duss, hard to work out why, suppose it could have been his far superior bowling average (20 v 32) or his superior e/r (6 v 9)

Lee and Watson combine to finally get Gayle, but it'll be too little too late

Can someone explain to me why a spinner wasn't used early on to combat Gayle going crazy on Brett Lee???? Ponting is a bad Captain at the best of times but in 20/20 he has no idea at all. Clarkey for Captain of the 20/20 team and also why not play Hauritz?? Spin has clearly been a decent weapon in 20/20 games lately so why not use it you tool punter.

I agree, look at how the Windies tied us up with all those offies, we seem to think the medium/fast bowling is the best option and it certainly was for Gayle

one good thing for the Aussies is Warners innings, his stroke selection was much better than his normal hit and miss

Don't know why on earth we played Hopes in the 4th bowling spot, this game shows why we need specialist bowlers.

We picked a pretty poor side and got burnt, we never seem to pick a spinner in the 20/20 form of the game. Time and time again they seem to do well in 20/20 by coming on to the bat slower and making batsman force the pace. But that was a 200 run wicket the bowlers never stood a chance. And if the West Indies could field we wouldn't have made 150......

What a disgrace. And because we got smashed our NRR took a hammering, which makes it highly unlikely that we will make the super 8s.

How the ICC came up with the groups is amazing.

AUS, WI and SL in one group

IND, BAN and IRE in another

who runs world cricket?

The whole draw is f**ked.

They are using the results of the 2007 20/20 Cup to determine pools. Because Bangladesh beat WI and made the Super 8 last time, they have deliberately structured the draw so the each of the 4 pools contains 2 Super 8 sides from the last tournament. As WI missed out, they were allocated into one of these four pools, creating a Pool of Death.

It's gonna get even crazier if they keep this format going. If the Dutch go through, along with Bangladesh, there could be 2 Pools of Death next time around.

Furthermore, had things gone to plan, the Super 8 pools would have been:
Group E - SL, Pakistan, NZ, Bangladesh
Group F - SA, Aus, India, England

I wonder what pool I'd rather be in...

Its interesting isnt it

Gayle during the Eng v WI test series comes out and devotes his love for 20/20, and basically doesnt give a sh*t about test cricket

Punter on the other hand, few days ago mentions as soon as the test series in SA was over, he has been thinking about the test series v England

Personally I think guys like Clarke and Punter should preserve themselves for tests and ODI World cups, I dont think they are too worried or focused in 20/20 as much as they say they want to win this tournament

Thing is, Ponting, Clarke, Hussey etc. are GREAT test players; guys who play attacking cricket, but 'traditional' cricket shots. It doesn't always translate to 20/20 cricket, which is a lottery.

I still believe test cricket is the pinnacle, and the Ashes of course is the pinnacle series.

In 20/20, the WI are basically a one-man team. You get Gayle out and WI will struggle to get to 150. Don't, and the WI can be a one-man wrecking ball.

I asked the same thing during the match mate, and I still have no earthly idea why Clarke wasn't given a trundle earlier in the innings...

Good point about Punter, Clarke etc...

Which in turn is a bit scary as well, cause the younger breed of cricketers coming through are gonna be fed a staple diet of 20/20 cricket, or they will head in that direction moreso cause there are/will be more opportunities to make quick $$$

20/20 cricket could also ruin their test career assuming there are potential test players

I reckon we should treat it like the Hong Kong 7s and just play young kids that suit that type of game and can be destined to just make a career out of 20/20 cricket, like Warner and Bracken

We should keep the test players out of this type of tourney, we have the depth to do it and still be competitive imo.

That applies to both batsmen and bowlers, I mean what good does any of this do for say Siddle and Hilfy who are trying to learn 2 or 3 trades (test cricket and 20/20 cricket) all at once.

The shorter the game, the more chance there is for an upset. We almost saw that in NZ-Scotland.

Hope Australia stay in the comp, though would you guys cry over losing the 20/20 World Cup?
