If it's good enough for Barba...

More NRL/Storm bullshyte. FWIW, I don't think the NRL should be drug testing players in their off-season and I don't blame Storm for playing dumb to get away with it, but would somebody please explain to me how Storm's Munster, Cheese & the other dude get suspended fines (ie $0.00), and Sharks' Barba gets reamed a new A-hole??

How does Pearce end up with such a big fine?

Different rules back in 2016, and it was his second strike. The first one is supposed to be silent, but because these ones were so public they've had to hand down some sort of punishment, and its much worse than what a normal first timer gets.
Plus Benny was tested for drugs, these players weren't.
I hope that mud is a little clearer.

Cheers BBB, yes I understand all that. I'm not necessarily defending Barba/attacking Storm, just highlighting the inconsistencies. The bone I was picking was more specifically aimed at the Storm CEO's claim that the reason the Storm players weren't tested was because the NRL doesn't test players during their off-season.

If true, then Barba shouldn't have been tested the day after the GF. If not true, then that's a steaming pile of bullshyte right there. If the rules have changed, then how unfortunate for the Sharks/convenient for the Storm. SNAFU

Also, the Storm merkin's insistence that suspended sentences are a big stick. Seriously?? And people buy into this crap?

Benny was an absolute champion footballer. Our club missed him dearly. But, if he'd wound up throwing his shoes at the missus in Cronulla mall, then we may have been spared that embarrassment. FWIW - I don't drink or take narcotics (well, not anymore) and am 100% against violence, especially family violence, but see the most significant harm associated with recreational drugs in the criminalised and often violent production and distribution systems. NOT in celebrating a milestone achevement.

I agree with you mate.
I think the out of competition rule came from WADA. Nadens case last year was about when it started, and that was extremely blurry ie: did he take it the day of, before, hours after etc.
I don't mind to be corrected on this, I'm only going on a failing memory.

Naden mysterious fell out of favour late in the season with talks of him moving on..
didn't need a positive drug charge derailing the Penrith jerkoff train.
timing stinks to high heaven on that incident.

Wasn't it the Sharks that tested him?

That was last year.
The thread is this year, and 2016 Barba.

The club was VERY clear that there would be tests done days after the GF.
Yep.
I said it in another thread, Barba bore the brunt.
You'd have to be pretty naive to think that our club, and all the other clubs, haven't indulged in this type of behaviour in the last 20 years at some point.
You can even go back a lot further if you want.
The Xtasy period went on for a loooong time, and I'm talking the late 80's early 90's when raves were all the rage. Some of my mates who went to them (I was a rocker, no chance I was going to them) would tell me of very prominent first graders, cue Internationals, indulging.

I find it hard to run with the ‘poor Benny’ line. As BBB has pointed out, he got his suspension after his second offence. He got 0 for his first.

Also, Benny was a train wreck waiting to happen, as he’s so ably demonstrated time and again both before and since our GF win in 2016. We got lucky to have him in a period where he either settled down, or just didn’t get caught.

Imagine us trying to get away with the storm defence... Cheese and munted were so pissed they can't remember what the white powder was.
Could've been candy.
Brilliant.
We wouldve been howled down by every dirtrag journo from here to the moon.
The storm trot it out...move on.

I hope our club strives to be so "diligent" haha

Even earlier than that.
But yes that era of the over inflated Super League war brought on copious amounts of drug use through rugby league in this country.
The players had free rein as there was no way in hell either side was going to have one of their players “caught”, ie: reported on. Just best to let the boys play with no retribution.

Yes, way earlier. You mentioned 80s and 90s. There was widespread use of the old nose candy in the 70s as well. Goey as well
