I actually have a different view on this. If Souths were NOT kicked out, the NRL would now be on it's last legs. As wrong as it was, Souths omission made people realise how important tradition was in the game and how the balance between money and sport was leaning too far in the wrong direction.... Discuss.

Yeah right, because the whole competition stopped when Souths were gone before didn't it.

You dumb f**k.

Care to give us your expert analysis as to how you dreamt up such a braindead comment.

I need a laugh today.

Sure the game continued, but what it lost was passion, people had a "take it or leave it" attitude, similar to what one day cricket and union have become. The real passion is killed off by the loss of tradition. This can't be underestimated, it was the biggest casualty of the SL war.

I agree with Yobbo....

Soiuths getting punted was the best thing to ever happen to the NRL. It made the rest of the clubs wake up to the fact that if you perform poorly you will be ousted, and it also stirred the fans into action to start supporting league like they should and insuring such a thing never happens again.

Even if Souths had lost their battle to get back into the NRL these qualities would have been set in stone, however I am happy they got back in. It broke my nan's heart when they got punted.

so the game was filled with passion because Souths were getting flogged every week.

That makes as much sense as AFL

The game is bigger than any single club. Souths are just 1 club. If they had been kicked out well and truly, some people would have stopped watching, but the game would still be going strong. There are too many other people interested in the game, and too many dollars involved. It wouldn't have just folded... that is just pure grade A crap.

lewis, that was a few years ago. Get with the times. No longer do we have to pay overs to get players. In fact, it is now easts that have to pay overs to get their players.

To be honest mate, this is a really imprudent thread that will achieve nothing except to allow for a lot of Souths bashing.
