I don't agree, my system returns a 40% profit on a 50% success rate
if 1 bet of 3 gets up (33%) the loss is less than 10%
when 2 out of 3 gets up the profit is 85%, these are based on my average dividends

Well obviously it depends on your system but your system is clouded by the fact you put money on multi bets and jucier odds.

Parra's assumption is that you bet exclusively on 1.90 bets. If you are taking more of a risk and betting on odds offering returns of $3 on $1 bets then you will only have win at least 33% to make a profit.

Tom - I find that the online prices cannot be beat. The TAB is routinely the worst by a large margin, with Aussie bookies only slightly better. Reputable bookies (you HAVE to check this out before depositing a cent) and betfair offer the best prices day in day out.

I have seen some of the bets you have made and I have seen the equivalent bet at TAB offer better odds. But all in all the other agencies are better particularly online ones.

That's why it is good to post the agency.

I usually check NSW Tab, Sportingbet, Betfair & Pinnacle. Sometimes it is just a matter of betting at the place you have funds - but it is a good comparison to have.

what I do is take two games and back all 4 multi scenarios for 31-50 total match points, the dividend return per dollar is between 2.60 and 3.60, thats not bad considering most games finish in that points backet, moreso if you discount
Manly, Melbourne, Cronulla and Souths matches

quick ? what does line betting mean? is that say the margin is 13.5 to team X, that team X would still win even if they started 13.5 points behind team Y??

Rabs, post your bets in here each week before the matches - no need to include how much you put on - just the bet, the price and the bookie. It is a good way for everyone to see price variances, interesting multi's and to see what sorts of decisions are being made. If you find anywhere that you can get a correlated parlay on let us know - this is one area where you can get some nice payouts - but bookies wont usually let you on.

No-one is bagging anyone else out - it is just good data & interesting.

I only use sportstab so what is a correlated parlay?

line bettings is done with starts or handicaps

team X gets + 13.5 so they can lose by 13 and the bet still wins
team y gets -13 so they must win by 14 or more to collect

If i could start from the beginning i wouldn't walk through the front doors of the TAB:crazy::crazy:

In all seriousness, make sure you play to your bankroll, and don't chase your money!

Here's my tips for starting:

* Start with a certain amount in your "bank", and be comfortable with the fact you could lose it all
* Bet 2-5% of your bank on each bet. Don't go increasing the %s if you start winning, or increasing them to chase losses. 2-5% will mean you stay in the game for longer when you get on a bad streak, and that happens to everyone.
* Spread your money around multiple bookmakers, and use the sportspunter.com odds comparison service. Bet with the best odds each time, and bet with the best line each time. This is crucial to increasing your profits, you can turn a losing bet into a winning bet simply by choosing a boomaker that gives your team, eg 7.5 start instead of 6.5 start.
* Know the maths. Work out the percentages using the formula 100/odds. If the odds are $2, the chances of a team winning are 100/2 = 50%. If the odds are $1.50, the chances of a team winning are 100/1.5 = 66.67%. Work out your own %s before you look at the odds. When your %s are greater than the %s of the odds, that's when you bet. It doesn't matter if you think a bet will win or lose, go by the %s, and if your %s are right you'll make a profit. eg if you think a team is a 20% chance of winning ($5 odds), and you can get $6 odds, then take the $6 odds even though you don't think they will win.

cheers

good advice, never thought of it in comparrison to their odds, but i guess its how u interpret what % chance they r of winning, does that website give the best odds, or does it have all agencies listed comparing their odds.

would internet betting be better than tab?

Yeah, probably use Centrebet if you bet mostly on league.

Betfair's great for soccer and worldwide games, but I find it doesn't get enough traffic to get attractive odds. For instance, the Germany v Portugal game had over £7 million matched, I doubt the league tonight would hold $50k.

the tabs are a bad bet because they have much higher margins than internet bookmakers. You're much better off with an internet bookie, plus you'll also get a free bet with most of them when you deposit.

Don't listen to advice to just bet with one bookie, choose at least 3 or 4, more if you can, and make sure one of them is Pinnacle which has the lowest margins in the business (ie the best odds).

Sportspunter covers just about every bookmaker, however probably 1/4 of them are only in an add-on service which you have to pay $250 a year for.
