We have Wagon playing 5/8th come lock, but he is selected at 5/8th for his defensive capabilities. I don't agree but I can understand.

Then, just 1 player outside him, we slot Burt into the centres, who is known for his defensive frailties.

Doesn't this sort of defeat the purpose?

Burts defense is bad on the line but I think he held his own last saturday night. The Tires were scored on Sideshow (twice I think) , Dave V (injured at the time) and once up the guts after the forwards didn't land on the ball to force the off side.

Mark,

That is just a band-aid answer. You know it is fact that his defence is unreliable at best.

Got any better answers?

ALL teams are a blend of different playing types....Burty may not be the best defender in the team, he is there for his speed and attacking abilities - his defense is not the best, but it is not the worst either.

I personally would prefer to see Burt at fullback, his defense is adequate for that position, but last week and this week we are trying to put the best 17 on the park that we have - a blend of players.

Wagon is playing closer to the middle of the park where the big forwards run.....we can't have a team of Waggys defneding across the park.

Burt is a player that needs space to get around players with his speed. The last place u should put him is 3/4. Playing inn the 3/4 posy requires u to break tackles ahhh whens the last time Burt broke a tackle to make a break. The only posy for the speed hump burt is at Fullback.

hahahaha

"team of Waggys"

Imagine that!! Our attack would be awesome.

It is the 5th tackle. Lots of one out stuff from Parramatta.

Wagon is tackled midfied, Wagon plays the ball, Wagon at dummy half picks up the ball and thinks or shapes to pass to Wagon at first receiver.

He has second thoughts and decides to hold on to the ball.

He runs sideways again shapes to pass. Gets tackled and hands over the ball.

lol@Suity!!!

MITS' reply was a post directly related to your questioning of Burt's defense. He correctly pointed out that Burt (in the centres last week) was not responsible for any tries conceeded. Perfect response

Sorry, but your reply was thew bandaid one, not his by any stretch of the mind.

And to answer your question, where else would you put a strong defender? Next to an equally strong one and thus leave two weak defenders next to each other? You udnerstand football, don't you, mate?

Oh, by the way..........

So, I expect no more crying about Wagon then?

lol, thought not........

HJ,

It is such a shame that you reply with such anger in your tone.
So...................people don't agree with YOUR opinion on the Eels?
Just because your wear a cape and go by the name of Jesus, doesn't mean that you have to make others feel like Judas.
I'd rather respond to people like MITS, who can discuss things rationally, than reply to your anger.

If, we aren't all licking the knobs of the employees of the PDRLFC, don't get so upset about it.

You make a lot of sense most of the time, (and I honestly think that) but occassionally you let Mrs Palmer and Mr Carlton and United Breweries get in the way of your opinions.

I cannot say I agree with it either - why weaken the position in attack just to strengthen it in defence?

People (and I include myself) say we are playing with two locks. That's all very fair, but the outstanding question is WHY?

Sure, I'd like to think we have a place in our team for Wagon who consistently makes 30 or 40+ tackles per game. But why at the expense of another player?

Whilst Burt isn't the best defensive player around, he is not the worst (*cough* Chris Walker *cough*). But I would like to either see Wagon at lock with a play organising 5/8 with strong defence (a la Witt or Thorman) or Wagon in the centres.

By the way, if Brian wants to insist on using two locks (WHY?), whynot put Wagon at lock and Hopkins at 5/8 (or second lock) with Widders on the bench? A few games last year Hopkins played 5/8 and hooker and while he isn't magnificent, he has some good skills. Not to mention he can run, pass, kick and defend.
