Watching the Melbourne game - I have every confidence that we can roll the Cowboys this week!
I’m more confident especially as they might have several players backing up or rested plus we will have probably the most full strength team this season or that we’ll have this season since Williams is out. Good time to have minimal injuries playing the tougher teams

Every press conference it’s the same message “We have to keep improving.” “It was a good win but we need to fix some things.” “There was some things that I liked but there was some things I didn’t like.” He keeps the players grounded and focused on being the best player they can be to the team.

His apprenticeship as an assistant coach has served him well.

This period or group of games was the test for Fitzs team , so far so good. Heaps of things to like abiut our coaching staff and the way its showing up in the performances.

Something I've noticed the last 2 games is Reece Robson and Brandon Smith have both not looked dangerous out of dummy half. Possibly something the coaching staff have specifically worked on to stop?

There's a couple of factors in this:
- Dale Finucane really solidifies the middle of the field in defence. He drives the line speed, and he is ridiculously good of wrapping up players to shut down any real chance of an offload or quick play the ball.

- Dominating the ruck. Sharks are doing a good job of not only getting numbers in tackles, but ensuring they're getting dominant positions so there are very few opportunities for the opposition where the markers aren't set, etc.

They said at half-time of cows game Fitz wanted to slow the play the ball down, that's winning those tackles allows a few more seconds

Not allowing the guy with the ball to be up first helps.
I reckon a lot of our sic again calls have been for a second man flop after a legs tackle.

Isn’t interesting that our defence has got generally stronger this year and Melbourne has put in some “Un Melbourne” defensive efforts this year. Could it be they have been missing Finnucane’s presence in the defensive line?

He was apparently one of Bellamy’s favourite players and this season we are really seeing why. His work ethic , leadership and execution in tackles is huge to a team.

There's a lot about Melbourne that is really strange this season.

Their defence is struggling, but realistically they are currently the 4th best defensive team and they have had a fair few injuries that would impact that side of their game - Papenhuyzen not being out the back to organise, Welch being solid and strong in the middle, etc.

The part that is looking bad for Melbourne is that they're not really showing the composure with the ball. Particularly in that Canberra game yesterday, they showed great ball movement - but when it was time to finish they were panicking and rushing. The concerning part is that it is their key players that are doing this - Hughes, Grant, Munster.

If you listen to Finup podcast, they give some stats since when Finucane came back from injury, when he is on field against off it, the difference in our defence

Can see from this article Fitz is a different fish. The off field approach is what got him the gig over Bomber IMO. Just so happens his on field stuff is good too.

What a great piece of journalism. Kind of refreshing, and encouraging to our fans none the less.
