Layne Alice In Chains
Andrew Woods Mother Love Bone
Kurr Nirvana
Chris Soundgarden

Leaves Eddie Vedder, Billy Corgan and Trent Reznor?

Edit: derpy me. Scott Weiland STP too.

Purely from a personal standpoint I'd add Gavin Rossdale and Ed Kowalczyk as well (albeit Ed is a very different style).

I was an 85 baby so I was into music a little late for Soundgarden but I moved to Asia in the late nineties so I kinda got to experience them as a delayed reaction. Loved Chris Cornell even if Soundgarden weren't one of the bands whose CDs I flogged. I've been playing his stuff all night.

f**king hell. What a shit day.

Compute...pute...pute...pute...pute...pute...Computer Games. Perfect synth pop.

Falling In and Out is also a great one.

Heard this song on a show I watched a couple of weeks ago, I knew it but couldn't remember for the life of me who sung it but knew I had in my collection some where :( Just had to play it again now

Yeah, woke up to that news. Really deflating to hear (lost my bro to suicide 7 years ago so really feel for the family moreso than I already did).

:(

Woke up this morning and still upset, even worse when I find out it's suicide.

Soundgarden were favourite band of the 90's, CC was a musical genius it's just eerie I saw him when he last toured and he was just awesome as usual.

RIP

Staggering - I took my son to he his acoustic show twice, he was magical, other-worldly - and with Soundgarden he was brutal, not to mention Audioslave which was a phenomenal body of work

Wife, young kids, seemed like he had his shit together - I just can't process it, my heart breaks for his family

I'd add Mark Lanegan, Mark Arm, J Mascis, Greg Dulli,, Maynard, Josh Homme and a few others.... (not focusing explicitly on grunge as such)

But Jesus, my generation of music has been decimated - so sad - in a strange way this is more shocking than Cobain... everything suggested he was in a good place - horrible, three young kids, just saw a clip of him singing with his daughter :(

What a bloody tragedy.

Chris Cornell had the best rock voice ever IMO. Such powerful control of his voice. It was a voice that literally sent shivers up your spine.

So glad I got to see Soundgarden in 2015.

RIP to another music icon gone too soon.

I don't think it's any higher or lower than any other generations.

I read a study on rock stars once. The lifestyle - sex, drugs, booze - all much higher in rock n roll circles.

Plus the endless ups and downs of hits and misses, long tours away from home, banal media, endless up, down, in and out, moving here and there, no time for oneself, the pressure to perform and/or being away from loved ones, plus having 'your biggest fans' tell you they love you all the time, but in reality having no one around you a lot of the time. The pressure of writing a hit or living off past glories. It's all triggers for black holes.

As much as being a rock star would be cool, I reckon the pitfalls and lifestyle would be terrible.

We all have special attachments to our generations - when that Seattle scene busted out, everything changed for me... they're a different breed, no mistake, and many people are affected by them.

I'm just very sad, especially since my son so appreciated him

As an early teen I loved hair metal, still do

I was 15 when Facelift came out. Then Badmotorfinger and Nevermind. Early 92 came Pearl Jam then a bit later STP, Pumpkins. Early Tool and NIN was floating around too. That was my prime teen years 15-18 with grunge etc. Cooped up in a boarding school listening to tunes.

Its sad when they pass now. Its a little piece of my youth gone reminds me time is fleeting and passes ever so quickly.

Mi Sex was me as a little kid with Countdown, car radio in Wagga Wagga and mum's LPs and 7 inchers. Ive been lucky. Always lived music. Still do. Sounds forever.

Its A Sides and Mi Sex for me today.

When I was 16 I was just getting into playing guitar and startignthe same teenage band in my agarage and It was at this time that Audioslave came to Sydney and I remember standing watching them then about the second last song on their set Chris comes out sits on a chair with an acoustic guitar and started playing "I am a highway" after that gig myself and my mate used to play in the garage each weekend trying to play Audioslave covers haha

I loved Soundgarden and always loved Chris' solo stuff but felt Audioslave never got the credit they deserved. Very underrated band.

RIP Chris

On some American current affairs show the other morning, they said Chris Cornell's voice had a four octave range.

Meanwhile, the bass in Jesus Christ Pose is nothing short of incredible.
