Not a great worker by any stretch of the imagination but seemed pretty passionate about wrestling

I swear he only just retired?!
Can't believe he was just 60, I always thought he was older tbh
2 weeks ago. Apparently left very bloody (pretty normal for sabu) but there were also reports of a bit of a nasty spot where he seemed to hit his head pretty bad.

I got to meet Sabu back in the 90s. He was out to take part in an event here called PsychoticSlam that was put on by Andy Raymond. Unfortunately whoever put the ring up did a crappy job and a couple of times he went to come off the turnbuckles and lost his footing. As a result it was a pretty poor match. My friend and I hung around after and got a copy of the poster and got all the participants to sign it. Got to chat with Sabu for about 15 minutes. Totally laidback dude, he was happy to answer all our questions. Seeing all his scars close up was definitely eyeopening.

Living in Australia, I consider myself incredibly lucky to have met Sabu—not just once, but twice. One of those times, we spent over 30 minutes talking backstage, just hanging out and sharing stories. It was a surreal moment for me, getting to connect with someone I’d admired for so long. We even shared a joint together, something I’ll never forget.

Sabu wasn’t just a performer—he was a pioneer. His fearless style, unmatched intensity, and dedication to pushing boundaries made him a legend in ECW and a huge influence on the wrestling world as a whole. His legacy is forever cemented in the hearts of fans around the world.

Rest in peace, brother. You’ll always be remembered as one of the all-time greats of ECW. Thank you for the memories.

Sabu was a guy that if you came across his match you stopped everything and watched it. I remember the first time I saw the scars and the story of "if he did this to himself what will he do to *insert name*". I think the Mick Foley book from memory helped the aura of Sabu to me as a kid. Taz saying Sabu was aura before aura was a thing was super true. I remember being so stoked when he signed with the WWE that it was easier to find his matches. Also one of my first memories of the internet is in 99 and googling wwf and seeing how Owen died and Sabu might be going to WCW and I was like who the f**k is Sabu.

It says so much about Sabu that his name wasn't the biggest but everyone is feeling this.
