NZ Cricket has a long proud history of picking guys who do bits and pieces of everything, in theory it adds an extra bowling option or lengthens the batting order, but against good sides shit is still shit.

At times NZ has had no choice due to lack of depth, but currently I would argue that NZ has enough batting and bowling talent to just pick the best available instead of messing around with the likes of Santner and DeBigMan.

Santner is very lucky that NZ's spin bowling stocks are so poor and he's a better batter than most.
