Indigenous All Stars Vs Who?

This concept has well and truly run its course. It should have been killed like 3 years ago. It's just the most awful exhibition game you could hope to watch. Boring footy by mostly average to awful players (on both teams tbh). There are guys on each team who most fans simply don't know.

I don't blame the aborigine (I can't call it indigenous cos indigenous to me = maori) team, they're obviously forming their strongest possible side each year, even if a few of them are bums/reserve graders. But that "all stars" team is a f*ckin joke of epic proportions. Uate's been a reserve grader for like 2 years, and he made the team. Moses & Mbye in the halves? It's embarrassing for the game. I laugh at how the NRL tries to promote this as a true world team with their lil flag filled numbers. Mbye with a Ghana flag, Moses with a Lebanon flag etc...it was hilarious.

I also had a good laugh at good ol Gus' comments. He went hell for leather on the 9's saying it's a waste of time and needs to be scrapped, yet he comes out with his tongue planted firmly up JT's arse (as usual) and says that the Aborigine side is one of the most important sporting bodies in Australia, and they need to be their own test side. My, my, my. If any event on the calendar ever needed to be scrapped it's this all stars farce.

As a Raiders fan, It's extremely hard to accept the fact that our club captain picked up a relatively serious injury in this meaningless game. It's just lucky that we've got the depth to cover for him.

When the concept began, I gave it a chance even if I didn't really agree with the racial separation aspect of it. It was ok for the first 2-3 years but now it's descended into a farce and it needs to go. These players whinge about burnout, yet some of them support this concept. It's ridiculous.

Channel 9 also gave us the worst possible commentary available for the game. I had a chuckle at Mr. Forehead Matt Thompson saying that Fifita was coached by Roos coach Mal Meninga during the week, and it would've been awkward after he left him outta the 4N squad. Uh Matt, Mal is coaching the non aborigine team. He's not actually an aborigine. Thompson also stated that it would've been "petrifying" to face the aborigine war dance. Uh no, they f**kin hugged afterwards Matt.

I had no intention of watching the game, but decided to check it out after my cousin txt'd me and said Croker hurt his knee. Needless to say I was disappointed in the action, as well as the injury to my club's captain.

Scrap it. It sucks.

Indigenous does not equal Maori, it means native.

He's saying he's a kiwi.

Though I'm not sure why he just can't say 'indigenous Australian'

I didn't pick that up but I am quite sick with Tonsillitis atm, though that does give him an excuse for not really understanding the significance of this game for indigenous Australians.

The Nrl has been trying their best to scrap the event for years, they've favoured the 9s, they've allowed sub standard teams be picked, Not doing much to promote it. Yet every year fans turn up for it.
I believe it will eventually come down to the all-stars or the 9s. I think the players prefer the all-stars. I remember Ennis and Marshall both without hesitation say all-stars should be kept if 1 was to be scrapped on NFL 360. Smith also is a supporter of it and I believe this is the 1st year he hasn't played. Just out of curiosity I put together a team of Nrl all-stars using the old criteria of Australian captain plus 1 from each club plus a few wildcards. All players except C.Smith were named for the 9s. ( and without even trying I've had a few different nationalities in the team)

1. Munster
2. Blake*
3. D. Walker
4. Hayne
5. Radrara
6. Milford
7. Johnson**
8. Tamou
9. Smith
10. Klemmer
11. Lewis
12. Frizelle
13. Taumololo

14. Austin
15. Buhrer
16. Gillette*
17. T. Burgess
18. Evans
19. K. Naquima
20. Boyd*

* wildcards
** know he didn't play, but he was still named

What's the difference? Because they actually are used interchangeably.
I should have stated not always interchangeable in that post.

Aboriginal refers to being from a region since early or ancient times, indigenous refers to original inhabitants of a particular place.

For the most part they are interchangeable but a group of people can indigenous and not aboriginal. For example if a place was settled by a group of people for the 1st time 2000 years ago then those people are indigenous but not aboriginal.

I would have research more, and people with more knowledge can correct me if I am wrong but I would speculate that Maori people would be considered indigenous but not aboriginal.

For what it's worth the Maori might have been conquered but they resisted the subjugation the American Indian and Australian Aborigine were forced into. Indigenous Australians naturally being more talented RL players is beside the point, non-Indigenous Australians can make small amends for past wrongs by embracing an Indigenous team and those it attracts

If it was f**king good enough to go out on Saturdays shooting Abbo's for sport it's good enough to let them show us what they can do on the footy field

should be Indigenous Australia versus Indigenous NZ

Kind of loses its "aboriginal place in Australian culture" point though with that line up, though you can argue having a "world" all-stars also dilutes this fact. I like the idea of the two indigenous cultures of the key two NRL countries being celebrated though. The work done around the game seems to get lost in the discussion but maybe RL fans don't see that as an important element of it? It is probably much stronger potential in outcomes than the indigenous round?
