Indigenous All Stars Vs Who?

I don't get why people are so offended by an indigenous team. Seriously why? Does it really hurt you so much that a team comes together to represent it's people, inspires their people, does a whole heap of charity work and plays a game against its opponents in the spirit of togetherness? Is that really such a problem? We have many teams picked on a certain criteria. You have to be Aussie ( at the least a resident) to be a kangaroo, from the county to play country origin, be a Queenslander to play for the maroons. Be a service man to play in the army team. Be. A cop to be in the police team. Why does the indigenous team get so much flak? I notice it's always the same kind of people that have a problem with it. 'Why can't we have a White team?' Is the stupidest argument because there is a no 'black' team. If you want a team that celebrates Aussie represents Aussie culture then that's the kangaroos. If you want a team that represents people of British descent then fine. But if you use the same criteria of the indigenous all stars then you are likely to find most of the darker skinned players would qualify for the team in the same way Jack bird and Wade Graham qualify for the indigenous team. Someone like Greg Inglis would have more of a claim to British-Angelo team then Tedesco if we used the same criteria as the indigenous all-stars

Bad use of Queenslander and GI in the same paragraph.

Agree, some of the indigenous team must have a micky hair of aboriginal in them to have qualified.

Anyone, who has had family out here for 100-150 years has likely got that micky hair in their DNA.

It wont be on next year due to the World Cup but when or if it returns, we are hopeful of having both teams at full strength. Unfortunately we'd probably have the same issues with big name players pulling out with niggling injuries or being told to rest.

I am not proposing one
OK maybe not you. But some in here have proposed it. The whole 'it's unfair that the indigenous have come together to form a team. They wouldn't like it if their was a white team.for anyone with that mindset, what would be the criteria for selection in a white team'

Well, that sorts itself out then.

By Caucasian, I'm assuming you mean 'white'.

The Indigenous side is not 'the non-white Australians'- Australian Sri Lankans aren't invited, for example, to be a part of the Indigenous side. So it's a bit of a false equivalency, isn't it?

No

Caucasian was just an example. There is no oriental or Slav side and nor should there be.

This is a team picked based on race, excluding all other races.

it is as simple as that.

I don't have a problem with an Australian Slavic team.

"Oriental" is a tad broad...

They would be more than welcome to create one if anyone was interested.. but obviously no one would.

Indigenous people have a major significance in Australian history (goes without saying) and a special place in Australian sport and Rugby League, people want to see this team play. Sooking about race discrimination is silly, indigenous people have a unique cultural position in their country.

Hopefully they find someone to play that takes the game seriously.
I think NZ Maori team would be good.

For the most part I am not a fan of them entering tournaments as a national team, BUT I think in limited touring situations they could play exhibition games against other nations and be a credit to the international game.
eg.

1 - An exhibition match in an overseas team's touring series - example vs England-A midweek in an England tour of Aus and NZ.

2 - A special (rare enough to be an event) Indigenous tour of the UK/europe

haha "Oriental". Like, those opium-dealers from the Far East?

Craig Wing was kinda one. Ali Davys looked like one. Marty Lang and Nathan Long sound like one each.

That's about it though.

It was embarrassing, then I think our Kid Captain got hurt. Why couldn't we have sent Dave Taylor?

The All Stars game needs a bit of a shake up. Too many players are pulling out and it's not getting the interest it once did in the early 2010s.

I heard an idea that it should be played before or near the NRL Grand Final, that'd be a great way to make sure it gets the attention and respect it deserves!

Only problem is that one of the teams in it doesn't care. Timing is ideal I think. Indigenous team is great.

Fan-voted All Stars wasn't perfect but at least it kinda meant something and got people interested, this fake 'World' team is a disaster though.

Indigenous all-stars vs Maori/Pacific island sounds great on paper. But it goes against what the vision of the event was about. The event was both a chance to celebrate indigenous culture and Show it off to the wider community. It was designed so players had a week of charity work and cultural events. The game was played in the spirit of reconciliation, everyone coming together. That's why both teams take their team photo together, and hug after the war dance. It's supposed to bring indigenous and non-indigenous Australia together through common interests, in this case its football. If it becomes a vs Maori thing then the game becomes a side show instead of a main event. It loses the Australiansess of the event. Instead of indigenous sharing their culture to other Australians it becomes indigenous and Maori cultures keeping thing's amongst themselves.if it becomes a Vs Maori thing then eventually half the games are played in new Zealand. What is the Point of our indigenous team playing in new zealand. It would really lose even more if the event went down that route
