Injury update

From the press conference apparently the doctors think it was a bad cork right above his knee, and thankfully don’t think it is anything structural. Apparently still in pain in the dressing room.

Have to wait and see the outcome of scans I suspect to confirm.

A cork would be good news. I think part of my anger today is seeing him go down.

Kikau was struggling before he when down.
Don't know if it was an injury or fitness.
I think he will miss a couple of weeks.

Might need to ease back in off the bench when he returns. He looked good yesterday.

What a bloody season for injuries. FMD.

At least we know how Luai will get game time now.

Oh shit. That must have been the reason why he was benched on Friday night near the end of the game.

You know what I think is going to happen unfortunately. I think Peach will go into the centres and Whare will go to full back. I don't want that to happen but I think it will.

I hope you're wrong but Whare did go to FB when DWZ went off in the Warriors' game with the injury.

So now we're on our third string fullback. This season is the craziest in memory for us. It's mirroring 2015 injury wise. Especially our fullbzck injuries.

2015: Moylan out for season. DWZ replaces him. Finds form gets injured. Will Smith comes in.
2018: Edwards out for season. DWZ replaces him. Finds form gets injured. Jarome Luai most likely replaces him.

Pretty crazy our depth is good enough to keep us in the top 4. I was laughed at for thinking our full strength roster was top 4 quality.

If you told me about the injuries we would have though, I would say fringe top 8 at best. If you told me how average our wingers would be... I woild be tipping a wooden spoon playoff again.

Luai apparently hasn't played FB since ISP in 2017 while Aekins has been there all year barring one match so he may be the more likely option if Griffin has a brain and doesn't just go with Whare.

I was thinking there was a good chance that we would rest Maloney, Cleary and Peach for the game against the Sharks. I think it is far more likely that Hook would rest all three, than it would be to allow one of them to play and rest the others.

With the injury to DWZ, it is now pretty unclear how it will all work.

Assuming we do rest all the origin players, if Whare goes to fullback, you could keep Luai and May in the halves, but would have to put someone else in the centres (Yeo or CHN perhaps?). Another option, and the one I prefer, is to leave Luai and May in the halves, leave Whare and Blake in the centres, and play Aekins at fullback.

Against the Broncos, with all the origin players back, I assume Whare will go to fullback and Peach into the centres, with May and Luai dropping out of the side.

It is going to mean another three weeks of disrupted preparation in any event.

Caleb Aekins in the centres, Jerome Luai at fullback. Tyrone Peachey could play given that he would only play limited minutes.

Debuting Aekins out of his normal position (in the centres where is going to have to do a lot of defensive decision making) wouldn't be a good idea imho. Luai also has not played FB in a long time.
