Injury Updates

As per Twizzle's suggestion, here is the current list of our top 30 squad injuries.

I've based the top 30 on the list here NRL 2026: Every club’s current full squad, best 17, ins and outs, off-contract players

The linked list has four positions (27 to 30) vacant yet I believe there are now only two positions not filled but I don't know who took those spots and so have added some names. Any corrections/advice much appreciated and I'll update the list.

Four positions are season over which is approximately 14% of 28 positions.

CountNamePositionInjuryWhenDue Back
2Bailey SimonssonWingerAnkleRound 5Season over
8J'maine HopgoodPropACLRound 3Season over
18Ryan Matterson2nd RowConcussionPre-seasonSeason over
20Matt Doorey2nd RowKneeRound 4Season over

There's been some suggestion that the club get Matterson signed off by the NRL for medical retirement. However, the question remains whether he's unfit or simply not selected because he's out of favour with Ryles. He was in the same position last year yet "in round 20 of the 2025 Super League season, Matterson made his club debut for Warrington in their 20-16 loss against Leigh. Matterson played eight matches for Warrington towards the back end of the 2025 Super League season as the club finished 8th on the table." That's on top of "Matterson managed only four appearances from the interchange bench throughout the year and was placed in the clubs reserve grade team." Whatever the case, we can safely strike through his position in the top 30.

There are 12 players currently not available due to injury which is approximately 43% of 28 positions:

??Apa TwidleWingerGrade 3 AC JointRound 5A Grade 3 AC joint injury (complete tear of ligaments) typically requires 6–12 weeks for recovery without surgery, and 4–6 months if surgery is performed.

I've left Will Penisini in the list as his brother looks to be out injured and Will still may not play.

The entire backline except starting halfback are out injured plus first choice backups in Twidle and Samrani.

By the looks of it Ryley Smith and Mitch Moses are playing injured, and JAC has a rib injury.

Given all the above I'm super impressed by Ryles getting this squad back into contention scoring more tries than the 2nd placed Tigpies in our loss, putting the most points on the light years ahead of everyone else Panties, and knocking over last year's premiers on their home ground.

Bravo Ryles and the entire coaching team, may this fortitude in the face of adversity continue.

You've got two number 3s and two number 16s in the table, and Samrani is listed twice (5 and 24). So I think you have 27 names before you get to the ?? rows.

Pou says we have 28 confirmed in top 30 so far for this year (as per the Round 1 deadline), and it looks like you're missing Tago from your list?

Twidle may have been given a short term exemption to play NRL from outside the top 30 due to injuries in the squad. The remaining two top 30 places need to be confirmed by 30 June.

We currently have the following players on development deals for this season:
Brown, Fletcher, Funa-Iuta, Latu, Pryke, Talataina.

Thanks for the completeness of the injury list. It shows those injured are either outside backs on fringe first graders with J'maine the exception he is a starting Eel. Not sure about anywhere else but yes a starting Eel.

Iongi is always going to be No 1 if fit.
Definitely based on what Joash served up yesterday.
Gee we are running with some reserve graders and average ones at that. So disappointing Apa was injured. This was an enormous opportunity for him. Hopefully he stays and continues to develop. Imagine him under Billy Slaters tutelage. Wow! Just Wow!

When did this happen and why wasn't there a penalty or a sin bin? So the NRL tells us to put up with it while this continues to happen and they do SFA

Players like Jrbojevic are valuable to the middle defence, like Hopgood. Sure they don't offer much in attack, but you notice when they're out. You just might not notice that it was because of them.
