Is this a good thing or a bad thing??

Ref interchange trial set for opening rounds

The National Rugby League has announced the matches in which it will conduct the trial of the referee interchange system over the first five weeks of the 2005 Telstra Premiership.

At the annual conference all clubs endorsed the trial, in one match each week for the first five rounds of the competition.

The trial will be monitored and evaluated on a weekly basis before any decision is taken about the longer term future of the concept.

Further detailed information about the interchange procedures will be distributed in the new year prior to the start of the 2005 season.

The interchange system will be trialled at the following matches:

Round 1 March 12 Sharks v Panthers Toyota Park
Round 2 March 19 Dragons v Storm WIN Stadium
Round 3 March 28 Rabbitohs v Raiders Aussie Stadium

Round 4 April 2 Cowboys v Knights Dairy Farmers Stadium
Round 5 April 10 Broncos v Eels Suncorp Stadium

I can see a problem with trying something that may improve the standard of refereeing!!. we've got nothing to lose. :?

The only problem will be if we get two shockers. I'd be tempted to shoot myself if we draw Steve Clarke and Tony Archer #-o

Interesting to see how/if this works? But hey, two heads can't be any worse than one...

stupid idea. for example, i know 10 metres is 10 metres, but we all know the ref's enforce it differently, so we will have one ref in the first half getting them back 12 metres, and the ref in the seocnd half only 8 metres. moreover, most ref's get a 'feel' for the game. i can't see how the ref coming on later on in the game is going to be able to have a 'feel' for anything!! just my opinion though.

Remember its only a trial. If it works well and good I think.

I have to agree with you.

If it does cause problems after a couple of games the NRL won't go ahead with it for other games.

I don't see what it can do, it's only a 5 week/5 game trial and if it does improve the refereeing of games - i'd love to see it.

See how it goes next season I guess.
