So if Hook was appointed coach of the Broncos this season he would have kept McCulloch, Bird and possibly recruited Mcguire? interesting how coaches think of talent...Walters couldn't wait to offload Bird and McCulloch yet Hook saw value.....

You can tell the quality coaches over the upstarts with how they turn around players...Hook is a master ..just thought it interesting ...

I must be an upstart but not young
McGuire time will tell but I would not if targeted him
Bird I always had faith based on him staying on field
McCulloch when mentioned he was being chased I thought WTF.. why?
But Hook I always had faith in so happy for him to prove all wrong many times over

I sat there in the ground as was amazed.
i cant express enough superlatives at this time.
Time will tell how far or whether the whole show crashed into a Simpsons Flaming car crash.
The way we are uniting across the park. The defensive line is all so good.
I expected - and it still may happen ( a moderate improvement.) only.
Everything from here on is a bonus.
Just got to beat the injury curse which is inevitable.
Just an observation - we ARE doing alright.

We are well above what I expected. Griffin has really turned some things around quickly...Let's just enjoy the fact that we are competing and i am loving the footy again.

Excellent observation. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Why did we persist with rookie coaches like Brown, Chinless and McDud? The only time we had success was when we had a proven coach in charge. Let other teams figure out if a rookie coach is good or not and let us stick to a coach with a track record...rant over

I worry a bit how McGuire will fit in with the new culture and bonding Hook has instilled. He seems to have been a disruptive character at the Cowboys and Broncos. Hopefully he buys into Hooks approach and coaching style. I also hope they suggest his aggression becomes a bit more controlled as we already seem to be the refs whipping boys this season.

Griffin wouldn't bring him in If he didn't " Fit"...Mates with Hunt/Macca . Have faith in Griffin....

Brown was too early and not sure that if he coached us later, say after Bennett and instead of Price, he would have had more success. Price and Mary were just useless and the Board agreeing to have them as coaches, particularly Mary for so many years, should be ashamed of themselves. I'm sure Dousty had a lot of say in the decisions in selecting Price and Mary.

If Hook can get us into the finals this year and further improve our standing in the comp next year, then the Board's bad decisions in the past will be somewhat vindicated and hopefully will learn by their mistakes for future contracts.

I Think Webb has been a crucial signing.

DD you have to remember that the St George side of the board's prime KPI is the Leagues club, not the football club. They get voted in by leagues club members who are only interested in what the Leagues club is doing. Id say a majority don't really give a shit about St George RLFC and that's why the setup is all wrong. Left in Doust & Young's hands the FC has suffered. Notice when Bennett took over the McGregor and other old boys were pissed off and Doust himself was banned from the game dugout ?

Good post mickey

One man's junk is definitely another man's treasure and no doubt Hook has been like a rat with a gold tooth digging around in the "rubbish bin" of the NRL.

He has a very good eye for aged players with something to give and also has a very good eye for youth that needs something to be given to them to get them on their way.

Both ends of the spectrum are viewed and meaningful relationships are formed which gives talented youth a true pathway and as a result that youthful exuberance prolongs the longevity of the senior playing group.

Hook would be an excellent cocktail waiter as he certainly does know how to mix and match.

The last time we had an outsider, experienced, ex Broncos, QLD based coach we won the comp.

Will history repeat? Maybe not this year but maybe in the next couple of years.

Coaching is a lost art.

Poor coaches blame the roster/recruiting decisions and want to buy their way out of trouble.
Quality coaches can make players better.

Our team are playing high on energy and emotion at the moment. That is great, but it's also very tiring and hard to maintain for a whole season. I want to see more technical improvement before I get too excited.
