THERE will be borough interest on and off the field at Widnes RUFC this Sunday when England Womens rugby league team tackle France (ko 2pm).
Kathy McMullin and Anita Naughton of Halton Women and Girls ARLFC take charge as team manager and assistant while Jo Watmore, who plays at centre for the Widnes-based club, could well make history.
Already an international at rugby union, the 22-year-old, who lives in Runcorn, is poised to become the first woman to represent England at both codes.
The cross-Channel clash is a prelude to Englands tour of Australia for the womens World Cup in which England have been drawn to play Russia, Australia and holders New Zealand in the group stages.
The tournament is a key element of the Australian RLs Centenary of Rugby League celebrations.
