IPSWICH Knights?

Hit a News Ltd paywall but without going incognito to read it, I'd say the DT are desperate to sell newspapers.

NRL wouldn't be foolish enough to discuss it even if it came up as a "all suggestions to be explored" situation.

Yep, Ipswich/Brisbane 2 needs a team but it'll never be a relocated Knights team

Yeah, this ones a good one. Move a 1 city team when Sydney is still over run with teams.

Makes sense.

The rubbish article claims it is a "cunning plan" to put pressure on Wests to take the Knights off the NRL as they see them as the only viable owner.

Typical News rubbish but would not suprise me if some idiot at NRL HQ actually floated the idea.

Make it happen IMO. But I'm an Ipswich local.

But tbh the locals won't take to the knights tho. The knights are a fairly disliked team in qld. Plus the Ipswich jets have a strong following here and are a well known brand in the Ipswich community.

If this story pressured Wests to the table in any way, shape or form then they are dumbarses.

It was one of the lead stories on Channel Nine news and they were talking about it on Triple M this morning. Hilarious really, the NRL isn't going to walk away from Newy and Wests aren't going to fall for this. They'd be more inclined to say "what are you offering us to take them off your hands".

Anytime Wests have got involved with the Knights they have bled cash, not a good deal for their members.

I think they are going to need to see something other than, "It will be different THIS time".

The NRL club grant will be 130% of the salary cap and Wests already have first class training facilities. On top of that there is revenue from sponsorships and memberships. They should be able to run the knights without having to spend much of their own money.

What worries me is whether or not they'll be inclined to spend big dollars to attract top quality staff/management and to pay for all the things that may add an extra 1-2% to our onfield performances.

I can see us very happily fitting into the middle tier of clubs under Wests ownership, but not sure if we'd ever be one of the top 3-4 clubs clubs.

I really don't get why journos talk about the NRL getting there $20m back on Knights and Dragons. They didn't pay anything for either of these clubs. They might have tipped in a bit of cash to offset loses but I would think this figure would be south of $5m

Owning a club isn't a 1 TV deal term, it's a commitment for long term. Sure the NRL and chipping in %130 of the salary cap for this deal, what about the next one, the one after etc?

Owning a club isn't a 1 TV deal term,

Have our last couple of owners even lasted one tv deal?

Sure the NRL and chipping in %130 of the salary cap for this deal, what about the next one, the one after etc?

Who knows? But I think it's a pretty safe bet that the NRL won't suddenly be dropping back their level of funding to clubs, even if tv deals don't have the same level as growth that we've experienced over the last 5 or so years. Can you imagine the reaction from clubs if that idea was even floated?

The Knights wont be moved for sure, but talking of a Sydney team that needs to be moved it should be the Roosters, for me they offer Sydney nothing. No crowds, no junior development and next to nothing on the TV deal. At least at Ipswich they would have crowds and lots of junior players in the area.

No club should be shut down or relocated against its will unless they cannot continue due to insolvency.

If an Ipswich or other second Brisbane team is desired by the NRL, they should introduce them as a 17th club.

you can't just shoehorn an existing team into a new area ESPECIALLY interstate and expect the locals to blindly accept them

frankly I'm astonished this ludicrous idea is even being considered

I'm Johnny_Knoxville and I think the Knights relocating will be beneficial to the club and the NRL. IMPHO, the Knights are a mess. Is it really worth having the Knights in Newcastle when they could provide a better ROI in another city?
