The idea of having a domestic quota is to promote development in the domestics leagues...

To be classed as a domestic a player must play in the domestic league..
I'm surprised someone like you could get this so wrong.

Just to cite one of many examples, two domestically produced Serbian players (Nikolic and Calic) now play Elite 1 for Villeneuve. But they do not stop being classed as domestic players as they are products of the Serbian League.

It's called the domestic player rule..not domestic produced player rule..

The goal of it is to continuously have a number of players who currently play in the domestic league in the squad..

And I stand by the scenario I described...so come at me ya set of twats...lol

Bollocks ‘spud. A domestic player is one who has come from the domestic, in this case Irish, league. It doesn’t matter where he is playing when a squad is selected as long as he originated in the domestic league. He could play for Melbourne Storm but still be classed as a domestic player. If those eight players in your scenario were signed professionally then the IRL would continually be behind the eight ball if they decided they were no longer classed as domestic players. What do you class the Burgess boys or Elliott Whitehead as?

This. A domestic player is somebody produced domestically. For eg the burgess boys for eng, Morgan escare for France, Justin olam for png etc....

No, I’m 2008 when the rlif were trying to implement the minimum 3 players per squad domestic rule before Tonga threatened to take them to court, a “domestic” player just had to have played domestically, not be a current player.

I think you might have confused this debate, with something resembling the debate around SL imposing foreign player quotas. Two completely different issues.

So how long does a player need to play 'domestically' to become a domestic player? If a player was born in a Country, played league there until he moved at the age of 12, then continued playing in the new Country he moved to. What Country would he be a domestic player for?

I'm not confusing anything..

So I'll say it again...the goal of the domestic player rule is to have a continuous presence of current domestic players in the national squad..

If a domestic player signs for a club in England or australia, for example,it then opens the door for another domestic player playing in Ireland to be selected, maintaining that current domestic player playing quota..

It's not rocket science lads lol

That’s not the rule that the rlif tried to implement before the 2008 World Cup.

So you’re saying nations would basically be forced to select domestic players even if they weren’t anywhere near good enough for selection to the national team?
