So nines deal is:
Less fta games
Less money
No bidding war with a 4 year extension
Reduce value to Fox by no simucast and no Friday 6pm game

What’s Vlandys waiting for? sounds a great offer!
And also 2 blocks of commercials running for 3 minutes each per half. (play to be shown in bottom right of screen while these occur). All Friday night kickoffs at 8:23 to allow 12 blocks of 3 minutes of commercial in the pre game that starts at 7:30 (after A Current Affair). Plus half time is for 22 minutes to allow for 4 blocks of 3 minutes of commercials.

Sunday afternoon game to start at 4:10, with 8 blocks of 3 minutes of commercials in pre game that starts at 3:30. (also, same half time & in game commercial arrangements as Friday nights)

The opportunities our game has missed over the decades, due to bastardry and incompetence, drives me to drink.Ever since 1995 it's been one step forward, two steps back, bloody disgraceful.

Oh and don't think it was any better before Arthurson and Quayle. Under Kevin Humphreys and that ridiculous 42 man board of lackeys and cronies it was even worse for in fighting, in action and ultimately corruption which culminated in the 4 corners expose that brought down the then premier Neville Wran, Humphrey's and ultimately the restructure of the the ARL which was put in the hands of Arthurson and Quayle. It was the ONLY period that I know of that gave us good sound management and direction till that blasted SL War erupted.

NRL 2020 season date: Clubs backlash against Channel 9
NRL clubs could reportedly take the hostile step of urging fans and members not to watch Channel 9 should the game’s television rights feud reach breaking point.

As the NRL on Wednesday turned its attention to smoothing its relationship with pay TV partner Foxtel, a rumour emerged NRL clubs would follow the league’s head office into the trenches should the game’s relationship with Channel 9 continue to deteriorate.

ARL Commission chairman Peter V’landys left his meeting with Nine chief executive Hugh Marks on Tuesday buoyed at their short and long-term future.

Nine reportedly remains committed to a long-term partnership with the NRL, despite reports the broadcaster is still pushing to have the entire 2020 season scrapped in a bid to retain the majority of its $125 million per-year broadcast rights deal with the game.

Nine’s reported push to renegotiate the rights deal for the 2020 season has further strained the fractured relationship between Channel 9 and the NRL — coming less than a week after the Nine Network released a statement that accused the NRL of “squandering” millions in broadcast revenue.

The Daily Telegraph’s Dean Ritchie on Wednesday reported at least some NRL clubs are prepared to join the fight against Nine, should the network shut down the proposal for the season to resume on May 28.

media_cameraChannel 9 says it's in for the long haul.
The NRL is yet to reveal what the 2020 season will look like beyond the return date — but the Project Apollo working group last week recommended two season structure plans.
One called for a 15-game season where the 16 clubs will play each other once during the home and away season.

The other called for the competition to be carved into two conferences where clubs will play seven teams twice — taking the season to 16 games, including the two rounds already played.

The season return is vital for the cash-strapped league and it’s clubs — who are reportedly prepared to fight dirty if Nine refuses to play ball.

“I’ve read a couple of stories and spoken to a couple of officials that say if it really gets down and dirty here — and we hope it doesn’t — (but) if it really gets in the gutter then they would be urging their members not to watch Channel 9,” Ritchie told Sky Sports Radio.

“Nine’s playing hard ball here guys. They’re believing that the money that they’ve outlaid for 2020, they won’t recoup it. They’re in financial troubles like a lot of other media companies.

“They’re trying to salvage what they can. But trying to hold the NRL to ransom and to effect to punish the crowds and the fans isn’t going to work. There’ll be a backlash here against Channel 9.”

He said the dispute between Nine and the NRL over the 2020 season could end up in the courts.

V’landys on Tuesday said it was made clear that Nine is committed to the game, which has been reeling from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

“There’s a lot of detail still to be sorted out. There’s no doubt about that. There’s a lot of hard work to go under the bridge,” V’landys said.

“But at least it’s done in good spirit and in good faith ... He (Marks) put his position to me, I put my position to him. We’re not that far apart.

“We’re a little bit apart, and that’s what you do in negotiation and you try and get to the position where everyone’s happy with.

“We couldn’t have gotten more than what we did today out of the meeting.”

V’landys, Marks, and Foxtel boss Patrick Delany will sit down on Thursday. It is then that details of the re-jigged competition are expected to be thrashed out, while Nine is likely to raise the prospect of exclusively airing its fixtures.

V’landys insists the simulcast deal wasn’t brought up by Marks on Tuesday.

“It wasn’t part of the discussions because he knows that that’s a conversation he has to have with Fox, not with me,” he said.

The NRL will be desperate to finalise discussions as soon as possible as it attempts to resume its competition in late May.

so in summary:
- Ch9 senses weakness in NRL and a chance to save money.
- Leaks views on management and says game is run shockingly.
- Follows up attacks at game online and via their FTA coverage.
- Paints picture of a game desperate for money and wants a new deal.
- Gets upset it wasn't invited to discussions for rest of the year. A blatant lie.
- Asks for exclusivity over 2 games per week and a preferential rescheduling.
- NRL sources $250m loan to secure short term future.
- Ch7 joins Ch10 in sniffing around for rights.
- Fox Sports not budging on schedule.

Advantage NRL: https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2...y-broadcaster-backlash?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

I wonder if Uncle Rupert gave them the number for the line of credit :p:p:p

Channel Seven, the home of AFL, has reached out to the NRL about the potential of acquiring rugby league content in the future as Channel Nine looks to offload one of its three free-to-air matches.

The news comes as Nine boss Hugh Marks prepares to meet with Foxtel CEO Patrick Delany and ARLC chairman Peter V’landys on Thursday to renegotiate the broadcast deal for 2020 and determine when and how the season will resume.

The Herald has also been told by sources with knowledge of discussions that Fox Sports will not surrender its simulcast arrangement with Nine, the publisher of this masthead, nor does it intend to scrap the Friday 6pm game, as Nine is hoping.

On the eve of the crucial broadcast meeting, the NRL’s negotiating power has been significantly strengthened with revelations Channel Seven has expressed interest in the rights of the sport.

Seven West Media boss James Warburton, who didn’t return calls on Wednesday, has a close long-time relationship with NRL boss Todd Greenberg and is monitoring the code’s broadcast squabble as Seven positions itself as a potential partner should the NRL need to seek an alternative free-to-air broadcaster.

Uncertainty around the AFL, in combination with the postponement of the Tokyo Olympic Games, the cancellation of Wimbledon and the prospect of India not being able to tour Australia for the summer of cricket, could leave Seven with some funds to make a play at rugby league.

It is expected Fox Sports will not agree to sacrificing the entire collection of weekly matches, basing its subscription service around an ‘‘every game, live and ad-free’’ sell.

Agreeing to hand Nine exclusivity would rob Fox Sports of the best games of the round, with the free-to-air network given first preference on matches.

Nine also want to discuss the removal of the Friday 6pm game, which Fox broadcasts against the free-to-air network’s news.

Channel Nine has experienced a decline in the Friday 8pm game ratings, something Fox Sports is well aware of and unwilling to compromise given the number of viewers who stay with Fox from the first to second Friday night game.

Nine’s preference, largely in a bid to bank the $130 million saving it announced to the stock exchange last week, would be for the NRL to wait until crowds are allowed back before the season resumes – even if it means no rugby league until 2021.

That won’t cut it with the NRL or Fox Sports, who are desperate to return as soon as possible to ensure the financial viability of the respective organisations.

It’s anticipated Nine’s tactic will be to stall. Prolong discussions for as long as possible to ensure there is less content to pay for.

And you can bet your bippi, channel 10(backed by the giant CBS) would be sniffing around in an endeavour to get a slice of the TV ratings action, such that is rugby league.

I cannot believe the ARLC is seriously thinking of extending the TV deal with Nine.

This Network literally has zero interest in the Game unless it's Origin. F*** them off and look elsewhere..Whether Nine likes it or not, there are 3 ratings deliverers in this code. Yes, not just NRL and Origin, but International as well..

Kangaroos v Tonga on GEM ffs? Having a whinge about May 28 return? Please give 7 or TEN some consideration?
